Let's see. Rough count 226 busses in that shot. At 40 people per bus, that's 9040 people out each trip.

People (citizens and authorities) in NO became complacent by the numerous near misses over the course of their lifetime. Unfortunately, nature wasn't playing around this time.

Just offer me some cheese to go with my whine. Katrina day was a b*tch, but mom evacuated the beach, our oldest was safe in Tuscaloosa and our youngest here. The house is fine, the yard a mess..typical of a hurricane. Then, right before we lost power we started hearing of the looting and conditions in NO and MS and parts of AL coast. Our oldest can't come home from college this weekend because there isn't any gas to be had, the public schools can't open because there isn't any gas, so our youngest hasn't gone to school since Friday and we're 100+ miles away from where the eye made landfall.

Mom is back home, safe and sound. Our power is back and we have gotten alot of the yard picked up. All in all, we're fine. But I just can't keep hearing about all this anymore. My President is being blamed for something he had no control over, my fellow Americans and Gulf Coasters are burning down their own city, shooting at relief workers and never even had ANY intention of EVER taking care of themselves!

I miss my oldest daughter, I'm sad my youngest is missing a week of her freshman year in HS and I'm ashamed of the behavior of the people from where I was born. And my heart is breaking for all the good people experiencing this devestation that are being ignored while the media is glorifying the worst of us, with few exceptions (local media).

Just hand over that cheese please.

Simply put, they were stupid. Guess they never looked at a map!

That was unfortunate.

Does anyone have links to stories regarding NO authorities releasing prisoners from local jails? I ran across that on another thread and have found no corroboration of the claim although it sounded credible. The impression I got was that those released were dumped on the street and were not taken by secure transport to safer facilities. This may account for some of the nut-jobs shooting at helicopters, breaking into gun stores, stealing meds from hospitals, and similar raping and pillaging.

If true it sure points the finger at local authorities creating their own "civil disturbances". Or did GW show up and unlock the cells too?

Regards,
GtG

I believe the day after Katrina, I saw a large group of prisoners on a highway... they showed this on Fox News... they said the group of people were prisoners... I said.. "you've got to be kidding me.." There were a few police cruisers surrounding them, and some police vans, but....there was no word if any of them got away or what... anyone else see this??? I think it was either Tuesday or Wednesday...

The following comment came from a fellow website; the brothers Moran must not have very happy get-togethers at Thanksgiving or Christmas!

This most excellent blogger is the older brother of ABC reporter Terry Moran, whose partisanship and lack of objectivity with respect to all things Bush has been obvious and disgraceful since day 1 and continues right up to a few hours ago in Mississippi, when Terry Moran attempted to play the "Gotcha/Iraq/Nat.Guard/Slow Response" game with the President today. the dude was a frikking disgrace and every Ldot who can should go to Rick's site and email him their thoughts about terry's performance thus far, which as i said has been a national disgrace and a big reason why so many people dislike and distrust reporters.

What's most important in this entire debacle is to point out where the problems were and then fixing them.

The good news is our President is doing just that, despite what the MSM is saying.
