I'm no doctor, but I wouldn't expect a bacterial infection to effect your thyroid or cholestrol.

Doc checked me for such things, because I have history of diabetes on both sides of my lineage, and diabetic onset can allow an infection to rage far worse than it should, thus producing the hugh WBCcount.
