Correct me if I have mis read something here. You said "he was arrested and put in jail for being illegal". He must have been arrested for another crime beside being illegal. Illegals are sent back not put in jail aren't they? He doesn't sound like a very good guy and your mother sounds flaky, I don't think I am terribly impressed with either one of them. You don't have to follow in their footsteps.

No, I meant to say detained. Obviously the INS had to get a judge's stamp to deal with it. Personally I don't even understand that to be honest.
