If you have two outputs on your computer that look like they are for a telephone, then it's likely that one of them is for a network cable. Check if one is somewhat wider than the other.

I have those two outputs but BOTH of them are the same size as the smaller telephone connection. No USB connector for the modem either. Can I get such a USB card at Best Buy?

In any case, USB is USB. There are two types of plugs, big and small. You may have to get an adapter.

The weird thing is that when I ran the CD-ROM diagnostic on my computer, it said I was all set for a USB but then when I called Compaq they told me no.

While in the Army, I learned how to read Tarot Cards. I do not have even the slightest faith in what they say, but I like doing a three card or Celtic Cross reading a few times a week to keep sharp.

I used to do readings in prison and I was amazed how seriously some people took these things. I just lay out the cards and interpret how they come up. A bunch of hooey as far as predicting the future. No different than reading a comic book. About as accurate.

I will use the cards in one way that is unusual, as far as a reading goes. Sometimes I have a problem or need to make a decision. I will do reading to open up another line of thought as to what I should do. Not that I take it as advice, but people tend to think one way and are not open to another view. A reading allows me to see my problem from another point of view I may not have thought of.

Before I started writing this post, I took out my cards and did two readings. One for Rove and one for Condi. I saw nothing but success and victory over his enemies for Rove. And Condi assending to a throne in 2008. Hmmm.


With Howard Dean the dems have formally graduated from "disarray" to "debacle", with "irretrievable disaster" just around the corner.

When I have computer problems or questions of any kind, I just call one of the guys from the tiny little telephone company here, and he comes over to set it up for, or to explain it to, me.

Usually within 15 minutes he's here.

Yes you can (USB PCI Card at Best Buy).  However, please take me very seriously.  Hooking up your computer directly to the cable modem via a USB cable WILL BE detrimental to the health of your computer and potentially expose personal information about you.

I'm begging you PJ, get a Network Adapter Card (D-Link Network Card at Best Buy) and the network router (D-Link Network Router) and have the Geek Squad install both.  You wont regret it.

How much do the Best Buy Geeks charge to install? BTW, according to my computer the USB port is 7mm X 1mm. However, the USB cable connection I have appears to be too big for this. Maybe it was a stroke of luck I am having problems since now I am alerted to the Firewall. I know about it but forgot about that problem since I am on dial-up now.
