Ahhh...but you know that if Andy doesn't make it, it won't be blamed on his decision to pass up early, free treatment in his home state in favor of supposedly getting treatment SEVERAL MONTHS LATER at JH. It will be blamed on those "evil, hard-hearted conservatives" who "interfered" with his treatment -- when we did nothing of the sort.
Charles -- the verifiability only applies to the "others", not to them, otherwise the author of the article would have had the integrity to do some honest research on the subject before he wrote that cheerleading tripe.
Yes. Nina brought this up in Reply 15 which correlated with a lot of red flags that went up over here when I read the article.
Wife and I ran a med transcription business a few years back (and she also had extensive front *and* back office experience in medical offices for nearly 25 years) before HIPAA was a big thing, but yet we were bound by very stringent confidentiality rules.
One of the things that also bothered me was that the author of the article made no mention (at least *I* didn't see it) of the alleged nurse practitioner's receiving any sort of authorization to divulge this information, and the author's permission to print it. And then he is [the reporter] hanging around listening to medical personnel discuss highly sensitive information relating to a patient -- in the presence of a reporter --- Nah ... something doesn't smell right here. This ain't Hollyweird and this article is written as if it was the summary to a soap opera, trying to catch us up -- little snippets of scenes for the intellecutally challenged who never ask "Why are they discussing this patient's condition so freely and openly."
No, I do not believe this author did any in-depth (honest) research for this article, other than confering with his pals from DU, ErrAmerica, Hartmann, Pitt, "Beth" and all the rest of their ilk; he listened to the choir sing and called it "research." (IMNSHO)
Sorry, a bit rambling -- back's acting up again and the Ultracet makes me mellow LOL. But I think I got most points across they way I wanted to.
Couldn't the entire clinic be shut down for this violation?
It's interesting that the Andyites on DU were citing HIPAA for why there could be no verification of Andy's situation from Johns Hopkins, but somehow this blatant HIPAA violation is just completely under the radar. I have no idea who in Washington State to report it to, or I'd do it myself.
For the DU lurkers seeing this, that's not spite against Andy - that's fury that a medical "professional" would betray patient confidentiality. There are REAL medical professionals in my family, and this behavior is a slur against them and every other REAL medical professional. How do you suppose the other patients at that clinic will feel about the privacy of their conditions? Can I just call them up and confirm that Bob Smith has AIDS? I can SAY I'm a reporter checking on the fundraiser for him, but really I'm a prospective employer making sure I don't hire a guy who's going to be out sick a lot.
I'm still looking for a bank that will issue cashier's checks based on paypal accounts - every time I bought a cashier's check, I had to pay with cold hard cash, not promises.
This is going to harm future Dem fundraising, though - yippee! I'm sure DU has its share of lurkers, and they see how anybody who questions the story gets shredded. They won't question it themselves, at least not on DU, because they don't want the same treatment, but they won't get up off their wallets so quickly again.
Okay, that part's spite.
Yes, it was during the trial. Rosie loves gun control, hates the war in Iraq and thinks that people who lie get cancer. Some brain she has, huh? Typical for a liberal.
I understand Spite. Spite has been a good friend to me.
I do feel bad for honest DU'ers who just are ideologically different from me. You can be honest people and just not see eye to eye idealogy wise. No need to demonized decent people who really only want what is best of us, regardless if we differ on what is best for us.
They are getting used and abused now on DU. I find it sad. They can no longer even ASK a simple question. It must be hard to be of their idealogy and have to pretend its OK they can not talk opening about any situation. It really has become Soviet Union over there. Unfortunately for them, the Andyites run things now.
from http://www.AndyThanksYou.com
Johns Hopkins Professor of Surgery and Oncology Dr. Charles Yeo released the following statement to Seattle Weekly Political Editor George Howland Jr. about Andy Stephenson: "The patient was diagnosed with undifferentiated anaplastic pancreatic carcinoma and underwent cholecystectomy and pylorus preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy, sometimes called the Whipple procedure"
Mr. Howland will include a paraphrase of this statement a follow-up article to be published in the Seattle Weekly soon.
Now, I don't know how legit this is but if it is, he did have cancer.
Let's just say he did have cancer and again, I pray for his complete recovery.
1) Why didn't he use the local hospital that medicaid (or whatever it was) would have paid for like any of us would do if we didn't have coverage?
2) An accounting of the funds would be nice.
3) If it is true that he did/does have cancer, what the hell were the Doctor's waiting so long for such a quick growing deadly beastie!
4) Doesn't anyone on DU think it's a little hypocritical for Andy to demand the best medical care for himself all the while, pushing a Hillary-Care style nightmare on the rest of us?
