Being broke and being shiftless are two different things. One is temporary, the other is not. I've been broke many times.

I was broke and homeless when I was paroled in 2001. I wanted to get beyond that. That was not somewhere I wanted to be. Some people are quite satified to live like that.

DUmmies coming over to the DUmmie FUnnies in droves; over 75,150 "views" now, about 5,000 more than an hour ago. . . .

5,000? That must be every single DUmmie in the Ant Farm! (I'm not counting the 65,000 tombstoned and freeper trolls.)

I think they must have heard that we've been talking about the members of UndieCo/Team Undie.

NICE-- now, I may have missed it, or not gotten to it yet, but do we know the "real" name of Miss Waverly (or whether she exists or not?). Surely she exists-- or where would he be staying?

I think the folks we are talking about are shiftless as Andy is.

Andy is scared, shiftless.

Sure sounds like it.

I've got a cousin like that. When I was little, I really thought he was something. Always had a dream. Only, he never did anything to make the dream come true. Just kept changing dreams, one after another. He never thought he should actually have to WORK for those dreams.

He has a daughter. Since he is my first cousin, I guess she would be first cousin-once removed? Anyway, she is everything her dad is not. Hard-working, caring, helpful, a shear joy to be around. Maybe it really does skip a generation....

Of course, when I was a teen, my dad used to say I was so lazy he was suprised I didn't need an iron lung to breathe. It wasn't until years later that I realized that I had missed the starting gun. How many years did I waste? You can't get them back, you know. Well, maybe not quite true. I found a few years ago that I was wasting 8 perfectly good hours per day just sleeping. Now I keep going until I just drop.

Every day is a gift, and there will be plenty of time for sleeping when I'm dead. Until then, I try to pack two days into 24 hours if I can. My life is so full now, that the weeks fly by like days. I like it like that.

My current favorite quote:
"You've never really been lost until you've been lost at Mach 3." - a fighter pilot

BUT.

It SURE is dominating this section of FR and making it impossible for any OTHER thread to be easily seen by too many!

You know, I wonder how P-J Comix missed this last March; it practically writes a DUmmie FUnnies all by itself.

Reminder about Andy Stephenson

Earlier this month, William Pitt said:

"We've passed the first of the month, which means a lot of you got paid. Which means a lot of you can afford to throw a few bucks towards Andy's hospital fund:

http://forum.truthout.org/blog/story/2005/2/24/84720/34...

"Yes, I am going to do this on the first and 15th of every month until further notice.

"Please help me keep this kicked."

TrustingDog (1000+ posts) Tue Mar-08-05 11:54 PM

erm, can we have scans of his medical bills, too?

I will give if I have proof.

Goldmund (1000+ posts) Tue Mar-08-05 11:57 PM

What's your handle about, dude?

TrustingDog (1000+ posts) Wed Mar-09-05 12:01 AM

this name doesn't include my Visa.

Cadence (1000+ posts) Wed Mar-09-05 01:17 AM

Apparently it doesn't include compassion either.

If you don't want to help, just don't and move on. Is it really necessary to question his sincerity by demanding to see scans of medical bills? What the hell is your problem?

TrustingDog (1000+ posts) Wed Mar-09-05 01:20 AM

why is it a problem that I want to know who I'm giving my money to...

that could go to my family or fosters parents, etc.

Why am I the bad guy here by wanting to know stuff?

Stephanie (1000+ posts) Wed Mar-09-05 01:33 AM

If you don't know then you don't need to know - and you don't need to post. Those who care about Andy can deal with this without you. Thanks!

TrustingDog (1000+ posts) Wed Mar-09-05 01:57 AM

"If you don't know then you don't need to know..."

HA! what a great line for a political discussion board.do Not Question. Just Know What I Tell You To Know.and do not tell me I can't/need to post. are you a Mod or my Nanny, or what?

And I Do care about Andy. so there.

Stephanie (1000+ posts) Wed Mar-09-05 02:03 AM

TrustingDog (1000+ posts) Wed Mar-09-05 02:18 AM

rude?

SmokingJacket (1000+ posts) Wed Mar-09-05 10:41 AM

I have a hair-trigger bullshit detector.

And it tells me that Andy is a good, decent person who's worked his health into the ground over the last few years. I've never met him, but I've followed the BBV stories and the various dramas that have occured since the election, and I don't need any more proof.

Every act of generosity carries with it the risk of being conned. That homeless guy you give a sandwich to in the park might toss it into a bush, because what he really wanted was cash to buy crack.

Trust your instincts, and err on the side of generosity, I say. My gut says Andy's NOT building an addition onto his house in Tenerife with the cash.

seventythree (899 posts) Wed Mar-09-05 01:35 AM

You are cautious, that's all

on a previous thread it was told that Andy has applied for medicaid, but there seems to be some difference of opinion as to whether it will cover his past hospitalization and tests. I believe that it will from what little I know about medicaid.

Mention was made that it will be three months retroactive. Since he is unemployed, he may have some needs not met by unemployment insurance or a mate(?)family(?), but I think the medical stuff is now covered.

Andy_Stephenson (1000+ posts) Wed Mar-09-05 02:00 AM

I asked my sister...

who could open her check book and take care of all the bills. She turned me down.

TrustingDog (1000+ posts) Wed Mar-09-05 02:19 AM

everyone I know would say the same...if they actually knew my check book.

sfexpat2000 (1000+ posts) Wed Mar-09-05 04:00 AM

Sorry that happened. The good news:

Your family isn't limited to biology.

Kelvin Mace (1000+ posts) Wed Mar-09-05 12:10 PM

To be fair

I think it's a reasonable request given all of the trouble we've been through.

We must be as transparent as possible and avoid even the appearance of impropriety.

I just got Andy's med bills and am in the process of making them ready for posting. I am redacting personal info and will get approval from Andy once I am through to be sure I have done all I can to protect his privacy.

For the record I would like to point out that Andy is being more open than Bev has EVER been.

Once again, we prove our case with hard fact.

Andy_Stephenson (1000+ posts) Wed Mar-09-05 01:45 AM

You certainly can see my bills. I have nothing to hide. I will fire up the scanner in the morning.

Actually I will get them scanned right now.

FlemingsGhost (1000+ posts) Wed Mar-09-05 04:34 AM

You can't blame some folks for being skiddish, Andy.

Some folks are still fuming about Bev Harris.

The fact that you have a certain "proximity" to that storyline ...

mogster (855 posts) Wed Mar-09-05 04:59 AM

What I'd really like to see

Is your story, with BBV and all the stuff you've done over the past year(s). You think that will be told, in one piece, some day? I would really like to read about it, and this isn't something I'm just saying because you're ill Speaking of, sorry about that very personal post the other day. Turned out a bit silly, and should probably have been sent to your PM instead of published I'm short on dough, but when my boss seems fit to sprinkle I'll shovel some of it your way.

WilliamPitt (1000+ posts) Wed Mar-09-05 11:43 AM

How about this

It's true because I say so.

It's true because thousands of others say so.

If you need scanned medical bills in order to giive someone $10, you need to reconsider your life priorities.

Lisa0825 1000+ posts) Wed Mar-09-05 12:01 PM

EXACTLY

"If you need scanned medical bills in order to giive someone $10, you need to reconsider your life priorities."

That about sums it up. I mean really, no one is making anyone give.

People can give if they want to, and if they are suspicious they don't have to. If giving $10 is going to cause someone that much angst, then they've got a problem. Maybe they should use the $10 towards a self-help book!

Stephanie (1000+ posts) Wed Mar-09-05 01:36 AM

He is supposed to have surgery but the hospital won't accept him until he pays his previous bills, which he's incurred in the past month or so since he's been sick, and which total over $10,000. He has applied for Medicaid, but it is still pending. There is no further info because he cannot pay for any more tests. Welcome to George Bush's America.

Stephanie (1000+ posts) Wed Mar-09-05 01:49 AM

not yet determined because he needs to have another test

could be pancreas or gall bladder or something else - there was a thread last week

Andy_Stephenson (1000+ posts) Wed Mar-09-05 01:58 AM

There's a number missing from the zip code.

Please repost it with the missing number. Thanks.

I don't think he should have had to post the medical bills. It's humiliating enough to have to beg for help in the first place.

Having said that, the posting of the medical bills should be instructive to everyone. Most people have no idea what health care costs these days, and the gouging that takes place even from so-called nonprofit providers. Everyone should be aware of how desperate the situation is for everyone who is uninsured or underinsured.

It's amazing. I pay for my own health insurance and I am unemployed at the moment. My son is 19 and his father just dropped him from his insurance so he has nothing. Last thing you will see me doing is beg on the internet or anyone for money!

Ah yes words to live by. Words folks like Andy, could do to take to heart. Unfortunately, they feel entitled. The world owes them, their parents owe them, after all they didn't ask to be born, it's their parents fault.

Most of us taught our kids what my folks taught us (brother was out those times I guess) you get out of life, exactly what you put into it.

Case in point, look at what this man put into life?? Entitlement, rebellion against society, selfishness to the extreme, self centeredness that knows no bounds. Everything is all about him, and he loves being the center of attention. Too bad that attention isn't gotten by doing good.
