I agree....I was merely doing my journalistic duty and keeping both sides equally informed...and besides...it archives them at more than one place.
Lord knows they're doing a Gov't level 0-Track scrub of the hard drives at the DUmp right now.
I'll be back later. Bookmarking my place.
I've got both of Pitt's posts captured. I posted them on the other thread. Maybe I should post them again here?
Someone has gotten to BenBurch...one of the most vocal critics of the AndyScam at the Dump:

Had I known asking the questions I asked would unleash this firestorm that seems destined to destroy people's lives I would have kept quiet.
I'm sorry that I caused this.
Go for it!

7. Don't be sorry
You handled it much better than I ever would have. let's me just say this right now.... my hope is that all this is cleared up and it has a happy ending... If it doesn't have a happy ending IE: things aren't what they appear to be... I will devote 100 percent of my time to find out how it happened.
I'm a recent law grad (and a 46-year-old married ma who had nothing better to do than go back to law school - just kidding). I know that your suggestions make sense.
My question is ... does it take a long time to have an attorney set up a trust fund of this nature (I don't belief it does)? It would cost too.

And when you can raise $50,000.00 in a few days, I don't see how an extra grand or two to do it right is a problem.
theboss (1000+ posts) Tue May-17-05 05:19 PM Response to Reply #60 64. That's a great point I forgot to consider
What is Andy's tax responsibility on this $50,000.00. As I recall from 2L, "Income is income from any source derived." This is income.
Can he take a deduction on a large portion of it?
grasswire (1000+ posts) Tue May-17-05 05:34 PM Response to Reply #64 70. I have been concerned, too...
....about what the gift might do to any eligibility for charitable care he might be able to arrange. Don't most of the funded programs require an accounting of all monies received recently?
[Fred: I am not a tax attorney, and make no such pretensions; I am someone who has done income-tax work for years and years and years, intimately familiar with the IRS Code.
It is ambiguous whether or not Andy can deduct any portion of this "income," but I suspect not.
And as for affecting his eligibility for charitable care, YES, he has to declare ALL assets and income, whether gotten legitimately or otherwise.]
Now, that IS a tragedy. If this UndieScam thing goes as we have been believing that it will, it is made even more foul by the revelation that these much-needed funds may have been diverted from someone who REALLY needs them, to someone who most likely did not.
"...and according to Great Aunt, Andy was approved for Medicaid in Washington with three months retroactivity to cover those initial bills for which they [DU and other websites] were fundraising."
On February 14 2005 Andy Stephenson Posted on DU:
"Washington State DSHS is turning down all new
patients.
So there is no money in the cookie jar for me
right now.
I need the cure sooner rather than later."

Has DU seen these two Andyisms together? Has Washington State DSHS been notified?
"I'm sorry that I (not andy, nooo) caused this"
Ain't it just like a liberal?
Drive Home Placemark
Pitt is trying to opus ???
Sounds to me like someone had something on him and showed it to him to get him to make this apology.
Well I guess Opus is the wrong word...
I leave the room for a minute and you scoop me??? LOL
He needed the Whipple procedure...
Whipple, Whoopie, what's the difference?
Whipple it.....whipple it good.....
Hey I'm a journalist...what can I say? LOL!
