"RePorter puts two USB ports, FireWire 400 and 800, and audio in and out ports wherever they're easy to get to on your desk. Or on your laptop when you're traveling. It's a simple idea, and a simple design. And you'll wonder how you got along without it."
TITLE
(handy, but at $59, a little pricey if you ask me)

I was looking for this website -- Paul McFedries -- and couldn't remember the guy's name, plus I thought he'd written one of the "Dummies" series (he wrote one, or a few, of the complete idiot series), and finally tracked down his site, just to see what was new since my last visit, uh, five or ten years ago. ;') Anyway, at that link is a cool little 'blog entry (he calls the 'blog "Lingua Techna") regarding his professional use of the MacBook Air. Here's the caption for the picture, which is worth a vist to see:
That's a USB/FireWire hub connected to the MacBook Air's single USB port, with a FireWire DVD burner, USB external hard drive (for Time Machine backups), and Apple's USB network adapter connected to the hub.
USB/FW hub? thought I. I found the very one shown in P.M.'s photo, the IOgear - GUH420 - USB 2.0 / Firewire combo hub. He's got me wondering if this hub has some mojo workin' inside to host FW, while connecting merely with the USB port on the CPU.

Mr. McFedrie's latest book is entitled MacBook Air Portable Genius and that link you just passed is his Lingua Techna 'blog entry about the book. Amazon also lists a book on the iPhone 3G from the Portable Genius series, and McFedries is the co-author of it.
