Euthanasia is technically a Greek term, and means condition (-ia) of good (eu) thana (death).

It means that conditions will be provided to ease the transition to death.

If medicine or comfort is provided during the stages of death, then euthanasia has been provided. If a morphine drip or medications like valium or demerol is provided, during the final stages, then euthanasia has been provided.

When you interpret the word euthanasia to mean 'mercy killing,' you are considering one of the current 'applications' of the word. It does not technically mean (mercy) killing.

Barring that, what does calling George Greer a monster or a murderer achieve?

Greer isn't doing it with a gun but by ordering food and water to be with held, I can't think kindly of him. I guess the truth kind of hurts, doesn't it? I would never feel good about any one doing that to an innocent person.
