Amazing that all the lefties are watching this from Canada!
I'd of thought they went there to get away from all this.
And WE'RE the hateful ones???
They wonder why the Democrats keep losing...
Did you read the hissy fit they're having over Hillary "embracing" faith based initiatives? It would appear they too dislike HRC. But I know they'd vote for her anyway.
Having said this many times before, I shall now take another opportunity to say it again: There is one set of rules and behavior expected for/of the Democrats. There is another set of entirely different rules and behavior expected for/of Republicans. They were all created by Democrats and for Democrats and will not ever change in the foreseeable future. Stinks, doesn't it?
the lefties are really nuts!
You're welcome! I've been oddly drawn to DU lurking since Election Night. It's like rubber-necking at an auto accident. I need help.......
I've been on FR since 1998 and I must admit I've seen the expression of hate here. No one is totally free of it. But I truly believe DUers harbor a deeper, more butning level of hatred than I see here. Their disdain for religion, especially Christianity, is over the top. I picture them actually snarling while pounding out their rants on the keyboard. It must be exhausting in their world......
PLEASE don't think that I'm some kinda DU troll (my "About" Page in FR should prove that!), but as a Constitutionist, I myself have a few prob's w/ President Bush's speech.
I am troubled by his pro-interventionist language. It's all well & good that he focused on liberty & freedom like he did, but IMO President Bush is willing to have America play global policeman to make sure it happens. If liberty & freedom doesn't exist in some country, then OUR role will be to make sure that a regime change occurs--even by force of arms--in that nation so their people will live in freedom. HUH???????
Yes, I believe we need to be careful about where we intervene. I think "intervening" may mean different things in different places, depending upon local conditions (political, military, economic). To me, the test should include a sober analysis of the effect upon our national security which, of course, now includes promoting counter-terrorism.
Suicide watch!
Call me a crazy "isolationist" if you will, but I believe that our military should be used for DEFENSIVE purposes only. We have no right to push "democracy" on to other nations, especially when it has never been a part of their culture. Of course, liberty & freedom are a natural human right...& we as individuals can send our own $ or time in helping pro-democracy fighters worldwide if we choose--but the Constitution does NOT give the federal government the authority to dole out our tax $ around the world in foreign aid, 'cuz it's not the gov'ts $: it's OUR $! Davy Crockett made an excellent speech on this matter when he was a Member of the House (I think it's called "Not Yours to Give"). Please check it out.
I am very sympathetic to your viewpoint, libertyman. To me, the main reason for doing the things we're doing in Afghanistan and Iraq is to "drain the swamp" where terrorists receive aid, comfort, money, and training. I would NOT be in favor of a wholesale march around the world looking for wrongs to right, but part of the defensive use of our armed forces is to take our offense into their backyard. A difficult line to draw, I acknowledge.
