BLAME DEMOCRATS FOR $50 OIL
They Call Him Pastabagel ^ | October 14, 2004 | Pastabagel

this is a great article about how dems putting envrironmental politics before our interests is costing us at the pump.

What is amazing to me is that you never hear anyone talk about ANWR in the discussion of these oil prices, it's all bush and halliburton.

The liberal Dems are so screwed up, when it comes to energy policy. They look like the abosolute socialist FOOLS that they are. And they don't want ANYONE to look good relative to energy sourcing, either.

So AHWR NEVER GETS BROUGHT UP. We should be drilling and pumping there now...but the Dems block ANY COMPREHENSIVE ENERGY PLAN that would give the U.S. far better energy independence, and ability to negotiate with OPEC.

A good deal of high oil prices is due to competition from other countries like China, whose economy is booming.

I wonder how long China's economy will boom at 50 dollars a barrel.

Well, actually, that's not the best retort to use.

Outsourcing, etc. can be brought up .

Offshore refinery capacity has been increased & domestic capacity is much more efficient.

Also, reforming technology has made refining as easy as pie.

Look at Valero stock for instance.

I had to spend Sunday afternoon with my mother-in-law. She started ranting about the flu shot shortage. I tried to explain about the British factory, but she cut me off and started ranting about "they." They shouldn't allow that to happen. "They" shouldn't make us dependent on foreign countries. Then she started on oil. "They" shouldn't make us dependent on foreign oil. I laughed at that said I agreed, but the environmental wackos wouldn't let us drill in Anwar. You would've thought I just said women should eat their babies. She got that blazing maniacal look in her eye and started ranting about how mad she was that "they" haven't come up with a fuel alternative.

She's 74 years old, has few brain cells left, and yet she can vote.

I told Hubby he owed me big time.

Another variable is Tanker utilization and capacity.

Refining may have made improvements, but I don't believe it has very much impact. Just look what happens when single refinery goes offline or has to manufacture designer fuels for Kalifornia or heating oil for the north.

Why has diesel fuel jumped ahead a gasoline prices in the last couple of weeks?

That's one of those "problems" that don't need fixin' from a certain point ($) of view.

And why is that? ..from what point of view, from an environmentalist?

Most ALL industrial/construction equipment runs on diesel not just my Chevy 2500 4X4!

Diesel has jumped on expectations of demand for heating oil (which is somehow related to diesel, don't ask me how). As for gasoline, we are coming out of the peak gas usage season (the summer), so we'd expect gas prices to fall.

The problem isn't on the demand side, it's that traders are worried about the supply side, so they buy up heating oil contracts now so they'll have the heating oil when people need it in december. ANWR would have directly address supply on two fronts: by providing placing a large reserve on the market, and by creating a stable flow of oil not subject to the political insanity of most oil producing countries.

There is no fuel alternative to crude oil that is remotely as efficient. Hydrogen, which isn't really a fuel since it takes more energy to create it than it delivers, carries far less punch. The idea of driving around with an 80 gallon hydrogen tank to equal my current gasoline tank is not appealing.

Someone else told me heating oil production cut into diesel production. Makes sense, I guess.

One thing I can tell you, the oil companies are making obscene profits but rig rates, onshore and offshore have not followed. One would think there would be a rush to built new drilling rigs. Some new rigs are being built, not what you'd think with $50+ oil prices and oil prices over $30 for the past 3 yrs.

Prices have been high for that long, but nobody in the industry seemed to believe they were permanent. My company was even dropping rigs in 2002.

For reasons, unknown to me, perhaps psychological, nobody was willing to invest in an effort to chase these high prices until the end of major combat operations in Iraq. Instantly, pent up demand was unleashed. There are now rig shortages in every region.

I think it's going to take some time to gear up again, and if history is any guide, the industry will be building rigs as oil prices decline, and they'll wonder why they goofed once again.

Medical anthropologist.

Crude has many good medical uses.

Herbs have many molecules with anomalies to hydrocarbon structure & function.

South Jersey boy, I got a job at a Citroen dealer in Absecon, N.J. while in college (Stockton State in Pomona).

Years later with no dealers around, I feel into a lucrative career rebuilding & selling Citroens.

Ironically, what I learned from college job made me as much money as anything.

It's $52.17 down over a dollar today, but as far as whose fault it is, it's everybody on the planet, but Democrats may be singled out for their paradoxical behavior.
