Maybe you missed the part in the original post; the word "betrayal". A good egg? Yea, right. The only good to come from it IMO was to bring to the surface the scum so it could be wiped away. Jim doesn't need "good eggs" like that, I think.

In my world, a "good guy" doesn't spend a year working on a project intended to threaten and intimidate someone else - particularly someone who was once his friend. A "good guy" doesn't reveal sensitive information because he doesn't like someone.
