I was just lisening to Medved debating Creationism with Athiests on the air. I found it interesting that while Medved argued his side quite effectively from the standpoint of faith, his opponents resorted to condescension and beliitled him with statements like, "when it rains, is that God crying?" I was reminded of the best (at least most amusing)debate that I have ever heard on the subject of Creationism vs Evolution, albeit a fictional setting. It occurred on the show, Friends of all places between the characters Pheobe (The Hippy) and Ross (The Paleontologist). It went like this...
Pheebs: Okay...it's very faint, but I can still sense him in the building...GO INTO THE LIGHT MR. HECKLES!!
Ross: Whoa, whoa, whoa. What, uh, you don't believe in evolution? Pheebs: Nah. Not really. Ross: You don't believe in evolution? Pheebs: I don't know. It's just, ya know, monkeys, Darwin, ya know, it's a, it's a nice story. I just think it's a little too easy.
Ross: Uh, excuse me. Evolution is not for you to buy, Phoebe. Evolution is scientific fact. Like, like, the air we breathe, like gravity... Pheebs: Uh, okay, don't get me started on gravity.
Ross: You uh, you don't believe in gravity? Pheebs: Well, it's not so much that ya know, like I don't *believe* in it, ya know. It's just...I don't know. Lately I get the feeling that I'm not so much being pulled down, as I am being pushed.
Ross: How can you NOT BELIEVE in evolution? Pheebs: [shrugs] I unh-huh...Look at this funky shirt!!
Ross: Well, there ya go. Pheebs: Huh. So now, the REAL question is: who put those fossils there, and why...?
Ross: OPPOSABLE THUMBS!! Without evolution, how do YOU explain OPPOSABLE THUMBS?!? Pheebs: Maybe the overlords needed them to steer their spacecrafts!
Pheebs: Uh-oh! Scary Scientist Man!
Pheebs: Okay, Ross? Could you just open your mind like, *this* much?? Okay? Now wasn't there a time when the brightest minds in the world believed that the Earth was flat? And up until what, like, fifty years ago, you all thought the atom was the smallest thing, until you split it open, and this like, whole mess o' crap came out! Now, are you telling me that you are so unbelievably arrogant that you can't admit that there's a teeny, tiny possibility that you could be wrong about this?!?
Pheebs: I can't believe you caved. Ross: What? Pheebs: You just ABANDONED your whole belief system! I mean, before, I didn't agree with you, but at least I respected you. Ross: But uh.. Pheebs: Yeah...how...how are you gonna go in to work tomorrow? How...how are you gonna face the other science guys? How...how are you gonna face yourself? Oh! [Ross runs away dejected] Pheebs: That was fun. So who's hungry?

Now, if you'll just agree to end the christian/bible/God bashing, you'll be ahead of the pack.

Facts have been submitted to a candid world. Oh really, VR? But you still insist on being the exclusive standard that imbues "facts" with their "facticity?" Nice try.

I deeply regret that my postings make you sick. I also regret my condition of utter cluelessness. God bless you. Aw geeez...you really are shameless, PH. So please do pass the barf bag. (Your hypocrisy at the end was particularly impressive. Please pass the kaopectate.)
Thinking it through, what I am confronted with here is not thought, it is pose. Atmospherics. All heat and zero light.

I loved that episode! Phoebe is awesome. Lisa Kudrow is the most talented of the Friends crew.

It's endless with this guy. I'm waiting for the first "good christian" to finally step up and admit that yes, indeed, ALS may not be the friendliest poster at FR. If someone is willing to do so, perhaps even a YEC or at least a creationist of some variant, I will be most impressed with his or her integrity.
At least one did, early on, I might add. Publicly.
We had a very cordial Freepmail exchange about the situation. I suspect the absence of that Freeper from the threads that followed is a reflection of the fact that he or she doesn't want to be associated with grossly repugnant behavior.
Since I was not given explicit authorization to identify this Freeper, I will withold the identity, out of respect for his or her anonimity and, perhaps, personal safety.

What's all this about you not being able to post in complete sentences or without placemarkers?
You've been kidding us haven't you.

Yes, pretty sad that only one has stepped forward, but the others are too "nice" to say anything.
To be too "nice" to say anything, excuses the behavior, even says that it's OK.
But if one of us even gets close to acting that way, they will come down on us like a ton of bricks.
Oh well, so now at least we know how it works, Pay them off by publishing them on some website and act all nice to them, oh and of course claim that you are a christian, and any behavior that you would not put up with from the other side is just fine. After all, the person respects you enough to put your work up on some website, so their behavior must be OK.
Then when it is pointed out to you, you blame the person that pointed it out.
Interesting concept.
So, if we put together a website, and publish their stuff on it, then we can act just like ALS and get away with it?
Do I have that right, because I think that I do?
Sometimes these logical exercises scare me.
It is a logical conclusion, not sure if it's the right conclusion, but it sure looks that way to me.
Oh, and the Chicken was EXCELLENT, got a new barbecue and just learning to use it, but man, that chicken was Perfect, if I do say so myself.

this last sentence disturbs me:

Only because I am feeling charitable for some reason tonight, I will answer both of those.
1:"Delusional Creationists placemarker for me."
That statement was aimed DIRECTLY at you. no one else, not a general statement, but a very specific one.
2: "Intolerance of another because of their religious beliefs is NOT only unconstitutional, and tells me that they could give a rip about it, it is also racist, which is something that they claim to abhor, but to dislike or hate someone because of their religious beliefs, is JUST as racist as hating someone because of the color of their skin."
Again, that was aimed DIRECTLY at you, you continue to MAKE fun of MY religious beliefs, I have NEVER made fun of your religious beliefs, You can be a Christian, It is fine with me, you can be a creationist, and it's fine by me, but your attitude and your attacks prove to me that you are a bigot.
Anyone that does NOT believe like you do is an atheist, if anyone does NOT believe like you do, they are a communist, if ANYONE does NOT believe EXACTLY like you do, they are not conservative and are not a patriot.
That is your attitude and I find it offensive. To attack me because of my religious beliefs is intolerant, and shows that your socalled christian attitude goes to only those that agree with you 100%. That is the other reason that republicans can only hold power for so short a time, because moderates are offended by such as you and therefore vote Democrat to keep you from getting any sort of political power over their lives.
Both those comments were not in any way general, nor meant to be generalized, they were aimed RIGHT at you, no where else and at NO one else.
And I know how to spell ALS, and I meant WHINING.

Got that right, frightening isn't it?
Let it become known as the Chritian coalition, fundamentalists only, None other need apply. Let's see them win elections...LOL
Ya see the problem with fundies is that they have NO tolerances for others whose personal beliefs are not their own, even when the political goals coincide.
They are going to eat the republican party from within.
As long as we who share the same political goals that they do, limited government, constitutional restraints etc, are abused by the right fringe Fundies, the party is going to suffer.
Intolerance of another because of their religious beliefs is NOT only unconstitutional, and tells me that they could give a rip about it, it is also racist, which is something that they claim to abhor, but to dislike or hate someone because of their religious beliefs, is JUST as racist as hating someone because of the color of their skin.
Nothing funy about someone hating for god, because then ANY action becomes excusable.

Somehow I don't think this:

Jives to well with your statement there sparky.

First of all, you are back on ignore, and second of all, they were indeed aimed STRAIGHT at you.
I ignore you you 99% of the time, so when I wish to make a point to you, or about you, I state it to another person.
They get it, immediately, THEY know exactly who I am talking about and to whom I am talking to, not my fault that you need to get hit upside the head with a sledgehammer to understand something.
Tells me a lot about you.
and yes, you are back on virtual ignore, I think I have made my point rather handily. Thanks for the assistance.

If I had a dollar for everytime you yahoos supposedly put me on ignore, I could retire in Tahiti.
Ignore means keeping your mouth shut about me as well, and none of you are capable of it.
You all seem enamored with the mere mention of my name. It's quite eery, albeit somewhat flattering if only for a moment.
Since you couldn't repsond to your obvious FIBBERY above, we'll take that as a concession and the usual running for darwood that seems to be haunting the evos of late.

Well, sorry if I disagree with you there BB, I find the fact that you ignore such behavior and then blame the person that points it out rather interesting.
Tells me that if I claim that I am a christian, and give you another forum to state your views, that I can get away with just about anything that you would NEVER put up with from someone that disagrees with you.
Sorry if the truth hurts, but that is the way it looks from this side, care to change the look, or are you going to continue to forgive your fellow christian for his unacceptable behavior. Because if so, it tells me a lot about you as well.
