That doesn't defend Bill Clinton any more than Winston Churchill defended Satan when he rose in Parliament and said:

"If Hitler invaded Hell, I would rise in this chamber and say a good word for the Devil."

It would hard to say I defended Bill Clinton based on events that happened before he was even elected.
