I think the President is a decent guy, but that doesn't make a cult of personality around him any more appealing.

Look, there are some folks who find no fault in anything Bush does. A far larger number of us are not altogether happy with everything he has done (and left undone) but understand the imperfect nature of politics well enough to not stupidly insist on the impossible at the expense of the achieveable. I'm not happy with the Leave No Child Behind Act, much of the USA PATRIOT Act, or campaign finance reform, among other things. I also blame my own senators and congressmen for these things. I want those things changed and will push for reform in the ways that I can.

On the other hand, I am very pleased with Bush for axing the Kyoto accords, taking a stand against the institutional racism known as affirmative action, and jettisoning the ICC from our shores. But most of all, I applaud him for having the courage to mercilessly hunt down terrorists and to stand up to Saddam Hussein and finish unfinished business depsite all the liberal-libertarian swooning and naysaying.

If Bush had a spine a jelly-wobbly as sneakypete's, he would have pouted after being told "Non" by Jacque Chirac, stuck his lip out, and published an opus letter to the world.

I am thankful Bush is made of sterner stuff.

Yup, big time.

A far larger number of us are not altogether happy with everything he has done...

Yup again, but we don't flock in honking gaggles.

Oh, c'mon. I hardly think that deciding not to post on a website is an act of cowardice, any more than posting is an act of courage..

I'm in agreement with you about the President's handling of Iraq, (and Kyoto, ICC, etc.), and have a separate list of particulars where I decidedly part ways with him. On some of those, I found myself in agreement with sneakypete, though I disagree with him about the imminent war.

Funny thing is, I get along with both of you. I just don't see the need for incessant personality conflicts; they detract from the flow of information. I'm not saying that I never scrap, or that there are folks here for whom I don't have much use, but there's always another day, and another thread, and you never know with whom you might find yourself in surprised agreement.
