HIV test[s] are too expensive for the WHO to administer to every suspected patient. Instead the WHO has the following diagnostic policy

”AIDS in Africa was defined by the World Health Organization in their Banguie meeting as a combination of fever, persistent cough, diarrhea, and a 10% loss of body weight in two months. No HIV or any other test is required. “

I have heard this before. The incidence of false positives is an issue but is not an overriding one. The use of symptoms to diagnose is. If you have a single elisa test AND you have the symptoms, then you have a lot.

If all you have is a diagnosis based on symptoms, then you are in the midst of a crap shoot.

Your quote was from the Univ of Wisconsin web site, poly sci deptmt. Do you know those folks?
