Actually, this was new information to me, too, when I searched for the origin of the quote.

Well in fact I agree with you that the quote is not scriptural. That is why I did a search to find its actual origin. Lots of people think "the Lord helps those who help themselves" is scriptural, too. Another of those common misconceptions.
