The closest we've gotten in the last 50 years to closing the border was Buchanan in the '96 primaries, and that's all over now. He's racist, those of us who agree with him are all racists, and the immigration issue is DOA. Good luck getting mainstream media traction on that whole 'lookit all the illegals on my webcam' notion--unless Soccer Mom realizes that her kids are in immediate trouble, she doesn't care. And Soccer Mom is still the primary voting bloc of concern to GWB and the Rats, so if she doesn't care, neither do either of the two big parties.
