Illegal immigration into the US has become a problem of such monumental proportions that it virtually impossible to fix in a timely fashion.
While Mexico is an easy target, here in NY we have illegals from China, Southeast Asia, the Caribbean, Russia, and South America, to name a few.
We could institute a 1 or 2 year moratorium on ALL immigration, watch the liberals lose it.
We could post the National Guard on the borders, again, watch the libs lose it.
We could order the immediate deportation of ALL known illegals, the liberals will tear their hair out.
As long as there are pols who rely upon these groups for votes, we are going to have this problem. The left wants to give illegals DRIVER'S LICENCES, for pete's sake.
We need to give pols like Tancredo our support (his little coalition is growing in Congress).
I think exposing companies and businesses that knowingly hire illegals is a start ( as stated in an earlier post ).
This would hurt the restaurant business in NY, but the argument that "Americans don't want these jobs" just doesn't hold water anymore.
What to do? Letter writing campaigns get you lip service and empty promises. Boycotting products from companies that hire illegals would leave our cupboards bare.
Unfortunately, someone in Washington has to grow a pair and take this on in a meaningful sense.
As long as the government gives material support to those who cross our borders illegally ( i.e. healthcare, welfare, housing...), we are screwed.
Stop the material benefits, stop the influx.
