The Mexican Consulate in Indianapolis will be open for business Monday. It's an office that will serve a group of people that's growing rapidly in our city and state. Mayor Bart Peterson's office has worked for about two years with the Mexican government and the state of Indiana to get this consulate opened.
You don't have to look hard to see why the consulate is needed. Drive down Washington Street a few miles west of downtown, and you'll see the fruits of our Hispanic and Latino community's labor. Shop after shop, sign after sign in Spanish. There are now some 34,000 Latinos and Hispanics in Indianapolis, and 60% of them are Mexican.
"We have an education system that welcomes the immigrants and we like the way we are treated because we find that the American community is welcoming in general," said Roberto Curci, La Guia Magazine.
The city even has two publications geared toward this growing community. "The Voice of Indiana," a bilingual newspaper and "The Guide of Indianapolis," a magazine for Hispanics and Latinos. There's even a new Hispanic and Latino yellow pages.
Local businesses are forging ties with that community. Kroger just donated a van to the Hispanic Center of Indianapolis to thank them for translation help that the center has provided for the grocery chain.
"As we change and we are changing as a city, I think it was important for business to recognize that and we have recognized it," said Jeff Golc, Kroger.
The change will continue. Just ask the woman who helps run the grocery store on West Washington Street. New Hispanic and Latino customers come in for her authentic products all the time.
"Like once in a while there will be somebody new that comes. You know, like, "Oh, we just moved here and we came to see how it is." So yeah, we always get new people that come here," said Irasema Delgado, store manager.
The Mexican Consulate will serve three states: Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky. It will serve as the Mexican government's primary link with those states on issues such as immigration, trade and economic development.

"I didn't realize..."
Don't worry about it, that seems to be a fairly common situation for you. If you would care to visit Indy I'm sure Miss Marple could take you to some of the neighborhoods that aren't improved, and yes, all the EMT's speak English so you won't be offended when they come to help you out.
You might be surpised just how much nicer it is muching on tortillas in an American owned store over breathing American oxygen from a mask in the back of an ambulance.

Do you live in Indy?

You know what? I don't really care what you think. I don't comment on your state. I have no idea what's going on there. Likewise you don't know about Indianapolis. Is there a possibility of fraud? Oh, probably. Is it wide-scale here? I doubt it.
But I will go sit in the corner and eat my tortilla chips with the rest of the clueless, while you charming people make fools of yourselves in public for thousands to read.
I personally think most of you are choosing this issue as one to divide, because no one ever has a concrete solution. You just like to make acidic comments and mock people.
Talk amongst yourselves.

The threat they pose is not that they fail to assimilate or that they assimilate slowly.
The threat is:
they can provide a beachhead for the importation of not thousands, not tens of thousands, not hundreds of thousands but *millions* upon *millions* upon *millions* of illegal aliens.
The threat is not:
that they can create daisy chains of alleged relatives for immigration under family reunification
that they can house and otherwise find support for illegal aliens who may want to kill Americans
that they retain loyalty to a foreign government or culture
Because all of these reasons could be applied to many immigrant groups who have settled in America.
To repeat:
The threat is in the *numbers*.

The problem with this thread is it has absolutely nothing to do with Indy. Indy is just being used as an example for someone's pet issue.
The funny thing is the example they picked doesn't help their arguments with people who have seen the transition.

Seems some of these folks in places like Indiana just don't get it.

The problem with this thread is it has absolutely nothing to do with Indy. The problem has everything to do with Indiana, California, Texas, Colorado, Arizona, Utah, and on and on.
Hey CWO- HE HAW, HE HAW.....

Eventually they will get it. When they no longer hear English spoken they may start to get it. When they watch their property taxes go sky high they may start to get it. When they realize they need millions of federal dollars to bail out their hospitals they may start to get it.

You are clueless. You just go on and on about how great these illegals are. You think it is wonderful that they are taking over your city. You think that it's great that you have a Mexican Consulate to open in Indianapolis? Do you think that Consulate is there for you?
That Consulate is there for the Mexicans. They are there to make sure they get everything that they can steal from the American taxpayer. They will take your butt to court if you actually do something they don't like. They will go to your schools and demand that you do it their way.
I may be making a fool out of myself in front of a thousand people, but at least I'm not a self-delusional fool. Why don't you find out if these people are legal. How about the ones that the stores are there for? Are they legal?
I have a solution. Jack their butts up and send them home. Close the border down until we have a handle on this issue. I will ask you a question that has been asked many times on these threads. "What part of "ILLEGAL" do you not understand?
Ask yourself: If they are Americans citizens then why would they need a MEXICAN Consulate?
To: Joe Hadenuf
"HE HAW, HE HAW....."
You do that very well but then again I'm sure it comes natural. By the way, congratulations on your successful move. Personally I have no desire to see "Jackass, the Movie" but there are a lot of other folks going to it.
I thought I recognized your style before...now it's in the theaters. Good for you.
To: georgiabelle
Even if they're legal, they'll turn to the Mexican government but they'll demand American taxpayer money to support them. It's all what Fox and Castaneda said they intended to do ---they wanted the "whole enchilada" which meant total access to everything in the US by Mexican citizens. People who talk about Atzlan have deluded themselves into thinking Fox only wants control over the SW states.

Ask yourself: If they are Americans citizens then why would they need a MEXICAN Consulate?Yes, it's so obvious, except those that are from Indiana.....

You puzzle me. I lived in Indiana from 1922 till 1990 and am certainly not aware of "Germans taking over". What part of Indiana are you talking about???
