Take a Silver Dollar, mark one side with an 'I'(individual) and the other with an 'S' (state). Hold it on it's edge and then flick it into a spinning motion. While it spins, consider how many have perished in this eternal battle for supremacy. Shortly before the coin ends it's spinning, it will wobble greatly (uncertainty), followed by a rapid and escalatingly vibrant attempt to defy the obvious(a final decision).

The constitution was written to favor the 'I' side ending up-right, exposed to the light, with the dark side facing down. Not a very common event historically among governments instituted by men. (Beyond my household, I have very limited knowledge of governments instituted by women).

Great thread. Sorry for the interruption. Is there any evidence to suggest that religions tend to be more favorable toward states? Just wondering.

No interruption at all, thanks for the thoughts.

There's certainly evidence that different sorts of religion tend to be favorable to different sorts of government, but it's not an easy breakdown... especially given that it breaks down by Denominations within Religions at least as much (or moreso) than it breaks down by Religion per se.

JMHO.
