the persistent revisionism of the adversaries of Calvin and Calvinism who paint a distorted picture of Calvin's Geneva without bothering to check the facts.Incidentally, if anyone can find the passage in the Calvinist Genevan Constitution about...
"...and theese heretickal Amyrauldians, proffessinge as theye do an heresy, but yet only an heresy which is yet able to be remedy'd, theye shall surely be contemn'd to hard labor, even the emptying of the reffuse of the horse stables; and we grant even this Mercy unto these Amyrauldian hereticks, theye shall be provission'd with a shovel, and shall not be constrained to use only their barre hands...."
...would somebody let me know? I can't seem to find it.

"I hope their personalities undergo some kind of transformation" It takes emotional maturity to get past being distracted by "personalities".
The emotionally mature become frustrated with the hysterics of feminized males, airhead females, and other childish antics of superficial mentalities.

OP, it was about Law bagging boys in boston. Didn't think you'd want a piece of that action.....hehhehheh (guess I was wrong!)....:>)

I insist that jcalv woulda clawed my eyes out.

woody's a guntotin' shooter; so am i; wonder if op is???

So is doc a "they?"
yep...multiple personalities.
most of the time he's just cyclo-thymic. At other times, he's the antichrist.

You actually expect your reader to believe that this sort of drek is your brand of "lighthearted kidding"?
Hey, drstevej, I heard a funny rumor the other day... it seems that Xzins is a compulsive pederast!! Funny rumor, right? Hah hah, Yuk yuk!! Yup, it turns out that's why he frequently brags in the Forum about what a "great" wesleyan Pastor he has been, and how many good works he has done... it's so that parents will trust him with their boy-children at Vacation Bible School. Just don't ask what the "little ones" are learning, tho... but xzins doesn't "cause them to stumble", he's got a firm grip. "hehhehheh"....
I hope this illustrates what I don't like about your style of "lighthearted kidding", Xzins:
1.) It is as carnal, underhanded and deceitful as Arminianism itself.
2.) And what is more, it just ain't funny. If you think your listeners are humor-impaired... try looking at the clown telling the "jokes".

"When you say "they" you are referring to those that scoffed - exactly what the doc was doing. So is doc a "they?" No. He provided a massive amount of Scriptural evidence to back up his reasons for scoffing at the Romish Echarist dogma.
All you did was scoff at his scoffing and give your personal opinion about what you perceive as his "faith".
Where's the substance? Where is your reasoned, point by point Scriptural refutation of the things he wrote with which you disagree?

2 Timothy 2:16 definitely does present the idea of the sufficiency of Scriptures--by the very way it segues into the very next verse.Except that it doesn't segue the way you need it to. Sripture is useful for what? Training, doctrine, correction, reproof, instruction in righteousness. Paul is clearly saying that scripture is a tool. A very useful tool in which to correct, reproof, train, etc. so that one may be equipped for every good work. It is the instruction that makes perfection, not the scripture itself, and that is what the Church's role is.
In verse 14, Paul refers to extrascriptural sources, and advises Timothy to continue in those things, which would contradict your interpretation of 3:16-17.

You don't think personalities and Christian values have anything to do with one another?

I can take care of myself. In Boston, I'd go to a different church. In Geneva, there was no choice.
You realize, that when push came to shove, he wouldn't like amyraldians a whole lot either. You'd be wielding the shovel in the horse barn.

Light-hearted kidding from drstevej...of course it was. You, however, said More of your style of "lighthearted kidding", xzins?? You actually expect your reader to believe that this sort of drek is your brand of "lighthearted kidding"?
Do you realize that you commented on the horse manure part of that post, but totally ignored commenting on the "boy love/toy" part. Suddenly you're incensed by it. Hypocrite using your handle today, OP? :>)
So, actually, it's more of drj's AND my style of light-hearted kidding. But drj is comfortable with his masculinity and so am I.
wonder who isn't? Has this troubled you for some time? :>)

Your freepmail to me was received at 2:43 Pacific time. My response was sent to you at 2:56 Pacific time. So, although I admit I am a fast typist, there is a bit of lapsed time between the time you freepmailed me and I responded. I was talking about the freepmail which I sent at 3:04.
When I sent that one, I hadn't seen your 2:56 letter. So, do you see why it was unfair for you to accuse me of "spin"?
I was being utterly sincere. So, please don't just call it "spin."
I am married to a non-Catholic, and his whole family is non-Catholic. (Baptist.) I have never seen them share their faith in the way you do - I can almost see the cudgel in you hand. This is an honest question from a long-time lurker: Why must Christianity be reduced to such heavy-handed tactics?
Well, let me answer your "honest" (but loaded) question with two questions of my own. What is it going to take to get you out of the mess of RCism? And how earnest are your in-laws in witnessing to you?
My point is that I am more earnest than most of my fellow Baptists. I'm afraid that I know the terror of the Lord a little better than some of today's Protestants do. This is why I have said that sinners need to face the fact of their unbelief and get it fixed by the grace of God through abject repentance, not stubborn complacency.
Don't kid yourself about what's at issue in true faith. Mere complacency and nicey-niceism is going to land a lot of people in hell as unbelievers, as churchgoing fools who never met the Lord in the Spirit.
Again, I have been utterly sincere with you. So, please don't call it "heavy-handed."

Theotokos means "Godbearer".
To: Matchett-PI; the_doc; OrthodoxPresbyterian
You guys remind me of the disciples who asked Jesus if they could have prominent positions in his kingdom. Our Lord used that opportunity to make a teaching point. Perhaps it would be USEFUL in familiarizing yourself with it.

I believe that the keys represent authority. In ancient times, keys were the hallmark of authority. Peter was given the keys, not the apostles as a whole, but Peter himself. Jesus also told Peter after His resurrection to "Feed my sheep". He didn't give that command to all the apostles, just to Peter, as the head of the apostles.
