Should we trust George W. Bush?
World Net Daily ^ | 8/29/02 | Harry Browne

Posted on 08/29/2002 1:00:30 PM PDT by feelin_poorly

Shortly after 9-11, TV talk-show host Sean Hannity said, "Thank God, we have an honest man in the White House!"

And when you think about it, a great deal of what you might believe about the so-called War on Terrorism is based on statements from George W. Bush. You have only his word, or that of someone in his administration:

Since America is endangered by the "you're either with me or against me" tactics of the Bush administration, it becomes vital to know whether we can trust the man in charge of our government.

The record

So does George Bush's record inspire confidence in his honesty?

Unfortunately, this is the same man who has referred to trillions of dollars in budget surpluses – even though the federal government hasn't had a budget surplus since 1956. (The appearance of any "surpluses" was created by taking excess receipts from Social Security and applying them to the general budget, even as the politicians swore they were protecting Social Security.)

Mr. Bush even has the chutzpah to refer with a straight face (well not exactly a straight face, he loves to smirk) to corporate executives "cooking the books." He neglects to mention that many of the corporate bookkeeping methods the politicians are so incensed about today were motivated by rules imposed by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

And George Bush is the same man who in 2000 said he believed in "limited government." Most people assumed he meant a government limited by the Constitution. In fact, he took an oath in which he swore to uphold the Constitution.

But he's violated virtually every one of the first 10 Amendments – especially the Ninth and 10th Amendments, which are meant to impose precise limits on his power.

So his belief in "limited government" apparently means government limited to what he wants to do.

George Bush is the same man who in one breath tries to ingratiate himself with you by saying, "It's your money, not the politicians' money" – but in the next breath, he says he's entitled to one third of "your money."

George Bush is the same man who said he has learned more about political philosophy from Jesus of Nazareth than from anyone else. But he's proven by his actions that he doesn't really believe such things as "Blessed are the peacemakers." And "the meek" who Jesus said would inherit the earth are in Mr. Bush's eyes really just "collateral damage" in his plans to tell the world how it must live.

Is honesty important?

In these and in so many other ways, George Bush has proven that he's not an honest man – and that we shouldn't trust him with the safety of America.

In fact, Thomas Jefferson understood that we shouldn't put our trust in any politician. He said we should bind them down from mischief "by the chains of the Constitution." And a truly honest man wouldn't even ask you to trust him.

Contrary to what you might have thought, this isn't an article about George Bush. It's an article about you. Are you going to demean yourself by putting your faith in a man who has done so much to demonstrate the folly of such faith?

Are you going to let politicians stampede you into throwing away the Bill of Rights, based on "evidence" you never see, reassured by politicians who have proven that the truth is secondary to their own ambitions?

Don't you have enough respect for your own mind to make your own decisions, refuse to accept conclusions without evidence, and be something better than a cheerleader for a politician or a political party?

I have always supported President Bush strongly on foreign policy issues

Seems I recall you singing the praises of Keyes and Klaymans attacks on President Bush's foreign policies. You do so much better at "the other site". Toodles.

For the love of God! If we fell into the trap of complacency that has gripped Europe once again, these terrorist bastards would rule the earth. Screw Europe. You know damn well if terrorists attacked their countries, they'd be begging the US to bail their sorry, pacifist asses out of the water! Get Saddam now instead of waiting for him to get us. Sheesh! He order hit squads to assassinate George HW Bush!

Rant over. Mo1, you know I wasn't ranting at you, my dear...

Okay, and it's "Beckie". You know, with an "ie" at the end.

It's just one of my issues. I even came to school and the first thing I see on my dorm room, is a big sign with my first name spelled "Becky". Needless to say, the first thing I did was pull out a Sharpie and correct the spelling!

They can get my roomate's name correct, which is a Serbian name with the whole alphabet in it, but not even get my first name spelled correctly.

This lie is so silly I feel like I am wasting my time just pointing it out.

Everybody from the lefty Peter Jennings to the History Channel knows about this. Where have you been?

There was a TV news show done on this very same thing about 4 or 5 years ago. This child evidently has the same medical condition (can't remember its name) that these other children had. Most of these parents had also been hounded to death and/or had their children snatched by overzealous, non-medical personnel from CPS even though many of these parents had other children who WERE within the 'prescribed' weight limits! There were several doctors and pediatricians on this show who stated that the ONLY reason these children lost any weight in foster 'care' was because they had been ordered to ONLY allow these children to have xx amount of certain kinds of food per day while in their care. Some of the foster parents were also interviewed on this show and stated that they had listened to these children cry almost constantly from hunger!! (several of these "over weight" children were 2 and 3 years old) and they were pretty certain that the children's biologic parents would have been unable to stand to listen to their own children "cry hungry". The physicians went on to state that the medical condition IS treatable but, of course, it would first have to be diagnosed by someone who was familar with it. Point being - none of us should be willing to throw stones at other parents until we know ALL the circumstance and not just jump to conclusions that the parents are somehow 'pigs' or 'lower life forms'.

Rintense, at LEAST the public is behind GW. All of this escalating anti-attack rhetoric is being directed. It is just TOO conveniently timed.

And from all that I have read, there are MANY agendas driving this attack on GW. Everything from private business concerns of so-called elder statesman, to the fine hand of the Clintons and McCauliffe.

I am STILL betting that #41 made some scorching phone calls to some of his 'former' advisors over the last week.

For the most part, I have always supported Bush's foreign policy decisions.

I have always supported the war on Terror and believe that action against Iraq is not only imminent, but warranted.

Now what is your opinion on the matter?

Would you care to offer any evidence as to whom actually perpetrated the events of 9/11/2001?. Care to offer any evidence that Saddam Hussein masterminded these events?.

In the year that has passed since 9/11, the federal government has yet to offer one scintilla of hard evidence to support the federal governments account of the "who, why and how" of that date, no different than the events surrounding Waco or TWA800. We get lots of official statements, lots of "expert" opinions, but when it comes to hard facts to analyze, we get zero. Frankly, with a 2 trillion dollar budget, I would expect some concrete evidence to support what the fed's allege.

I am willing to bet that YOU are a much saner, happier person than one who is so consumed with her own anger and hatred that she can't even have a rational discussion that isn't permeated with her own bile.

We supported Afghanistan against the Soviets NOT OSAMA

And just who the heck do you think was one of the main leaders of the Afgan "troops" who just happened to have a father in the constuction business who were fairly close friends with GWB I? Why do you think GWB II told the FBI to back off investigating the Al Quida/Taliban in the period preceeding 9/11? Couldn't have had anything to do with Osama's and Bush's families being friendly, now could it?

Thanks for the entertaining (if somewhat depressing) evening. Now I remember why Anne Robinson thinks Americans are stupid. For a large part, they are.

Well, I am not pleased with the Saudis and would like to see their sorry asses kicked to the curb by the Bush admin as well. But the reason the Saudis don't want Saddam out of power is that freedom is the biggest threat to their monarchy. If freedom becomes the status quo in the region (and you can be darn sure that free societies is a major goal of this adminstration) then SA is screwed big time. The majority of their popoulation is below the age of 40, and dirt poor. They are ripe for a change. And Iraq will be the example.

I believe the complacency of the 18th century patriots around here wasn't even dented by 9/11, My guess is they think the "Evil" George Bush orchestrated the whole thing so he could take away their freedoms.

I thought I had seen it all until tonight. There is few on this thread that re-define the word ignorant. I was yold that we have been supporting Osama & Al-Qaeda for DECADES, I was told that by one here tonight that his freedoms were being taken away by George W. Bush since 9/11. So I asked him to identify what freedoms he had lost since 9/11 and the response was "How can I be sure their is no Americans in GITMO" and that we almost approved a "TIPS" program. ROFLMAO, How can anyone be so ignorant

Well, I don't know who is telling you guys that, but I haven't.

You brought up the issue of 'YoungRepublicanGal' to me, and I had no idea what you were talking about.

You believe anything you want to anyway. I can only tell you what I know and it is up to you who to believe.
