DW was the initial suspect because he was gone from the neighborhood and his hose was left out on the grass.

Detective Parga was peeking over the fence looking in his windows and saw the house was clean, so the hose being left out was a big red flag that he had left in a hurry. (Dusek presented witness neighbor that stated his curtains were all closed up due to sinister reasons)
