Sounds like the (apocryphal?) Army story of R. B. Jones whose initials were like Harry S. Truman's middle initial, standing only for themselves. Some clerk balked at entering the data but the guy insisted it was R only and B only, no expansion. The guy's paychecks arrived made out to "Ronly Bonly Jones."

The reason the "l" is considered "soft" when followed by the soft sign is that you curl your tongue as if you are about to add a "y" sound but change your mind. The idea is like making a quasi-martini with gin and saying "Vermouth! Vermouth!" over it, optionally bowing towards France.
Now when the French drop a final consonant, which they nearly always do, they drop it flat. That sucker leaves no trace.

When I was in the Navy, I knew a SK 1/c (and later CPO), whose legal name was E J Todd. (No periods, because the E and J weren't initials). The only way the Navy could deal with this was to have his id. card read: Todd, "E" "J".

indicate in several places that the opponent is lacking in mental faculties,I get told that all the time by you guys simply because I profess a belief in God. Rather than "Holden Ettiquette" that one should be referred to as "Crevo Ettiquette."
To: dubyagee
I profess a belief in God, too, so that is not entirely accurate. What may be called into question is an untenable belief in the literal interpretation of the Book of Genesis.

As I see it, evolution is an ideological doctrine. If it were only a "scientific theory", it would have died a natural death 50 - 70 years ago; the evidence against it is too overwhelming and has been all along. The people defending it are doing so because they do not like the alternatives to an atheistic basis for science and do not like the logical implications of abandoning their atheistic paradigm and, in conducting themselves that way, they have achieved a degree of immunity to what most people call logic.

I see that once again "The Smokey Backroom" might as well be Breaking News for all you can say about Teddy Boy.

I see that once again "The Smokey Backroom" might as well be Breaking News for all you can say about Teddy Boy. To quote "Henry Drummond" (the Clarence Darrow character in "Inherit the Wind"): "some barren source of amusement this will be!"

"some barren source of amusement this will be!" At some point, overruled on an objection, he says, "I can see which way the wind is blowing."

I noticed my posting of A Holden Etiquette Guide was yanked, even though it it patently obvious everything in there was right on the mark. Methinks ol' Teddy can dish it out, but he most certainly can't take it. Lately, I've noticed a lot of posts being yanked from The Smokey Back Room...

You seem to have some sort of a minimal sense of propriety which "Junior" and "PatrickHenry" lack there, Reep. I couldn't really press the abuse button over that one.
That's apparently what I look like to a few of the talk.origins bandarlog. Here's what they look like to me and others:
Talk.origins FAQ
Analysis of talk.origins web site methodology
Talk.origins is a known hotbed of dogmatic evolutionism and they play by knifefight rules there. The fact that I rarely deal with the place anymore mainly amounts to a judgement that nobody with enough brains to worry about convincing of anything reads t.o. anymore.

Meanwhile, Patrick gets a giant red YOU CRYBABY! from the guy who dribbles the abuse button like a basketball.

I'm still boggled at the slavish attention you get every time you do. Next time, don't hold off. An experiment needs to isolate the variable under study.

The miracle is how you ever manage to look like anything else to anybody.
