Caroline Ellison has been moved from federal prison to community confinement. That means the former Alameda Research CEO is either in home confinement or a halfway house. Ellison served about 11 months of her two-year prison sentence.
Caroline Ellison, the former cryptocurrency executive and ex-girlfriend of Sam Bankman-Fried, has been quietly moved out of federal lockup after serving roughly 11 months of her two-year prison sentence, Business Insider has learned.
Ellison, 31, was transferred on October 16 from the Danbury Federal Correctional Institution in Connecticut to what's known as community confinement, a Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesperson said.
That means Ellison, the former CEO of Bankman-Fried's Alameda Research cryptocurrency hedge fund, remains in federal custody but is now either in home confinement or a halfway house, BOP spokesperson Randilee Giamusso told Business Insider.
"For privacy, safety, and security reasons, we do not discuss the conditions of confinement for any individual, including reasons for transfers or release plans, nor do we specify an individual's specific location while in community confinement," Giamusso said.
Online prison records list Ellison's projected release date as February 20, 2026 — nearly nine months early. Her attorneys declined to comment for this story.
She had pleaded guilty to conspiring with Bankman-Fried — the founder of the FTX crypto exchange and its sister company, Alameda Research — in the $11 billion fraud scheme.

She made $6 million and went to jail for 2 years. If she invests her money properly, she’ll never have to work again. It’s arguably worth it.

To be fair, prisoners do get evaluated on their risk factors and low risk inmates can get moved to other facilities or accommodations to make room for higher risk inmates.

I still don't like her being released, but I strongly suspect her pot of money no longer exists.
She will have more than enough to afford a little facial work from the finest doctors in the land, if she should ever want it.

She made $6 million, but the judge also made a! forfeiture order of $11 Billion along with the prison sentence, so hopefully 100% of her $6 million went back to victims.
My brother worked at the Fed Pen in Lewisburg, PA. Known as the Big House.
He used to go to Danbury occasionally for training.
It is a womens prison.
He said that the women would constantly try to “jamb you up”. Meaning come on to the male Federal workers to try and get something on you.
He said at Danbury 90% of the women were in there because their baby daddy got caught selling drugs.
Even where he worked in Lewisburg they had a group of MINIMUM Security buildings on the outside of the main prison walls. There were tennis courts, a baseball field and a dairy farm next to them. They were the guys that were convicted of mail fraud and other white collar crimes.
I asked him what keeps them from running away?
He said they all wore an ankle GPS.
He said, we don’t worry about them running away. If they did when we caught them we would stick them inside with all the animals. They wouldn’t last long in there.
