If I remember correctly, there were involved discussions at the Bridge World about how to refer to a couple named Bailey. The editor believed “Bailey’s” was the best way and cited examples of various usages.
That was probably 50 years ago, so perhaps things have changed since then. It’s also a distinct possibility I’m remembering this incorrectly.
How weird. "Bailey's" as a plural is dead wrong (and for obvious reasons, it could be confusing). The plural is "Baileys," and if you want to make that possesive, "Baileys'," as in "the Baileys' dog." There are almost no instances in which a plural is created using an apostrophe. The only instance I can come up with off the top of my head is the expression "p's and q's."
