The cemeteries of Normandy are filled with the graves of Americans who died liberating France. Obviously this one worm wanting the Statue back doesn’t remember them, but hopefully all Frenchmen aren’t so ungrateful.

That is true. They are citizens in the surrounding area of Normandy, and they do it out of respect for their ancestors' gratefulness to the Allied soldiers who died there. They have no connection to the French government.

The American Battle Monuments Commission has managed all of our military cemeteries on foreign soil since 1923. The ABMC is an agency of the federal government, nothing to do with the locals.

Don't forget World War I, Gina. Without the influx of fresh US troops, the Germans, bolstered by troops from the Eastern Front, would likely have been able to break through the French lines and take Paris. Another section of eastern France would have been sliced off.
