European rearmament is going to turn the world upside down
Daily Telegraph via Yahoo News ^ | Tue, March 4, 2025 at 7:50 AM EST | Ambrose Evans-Pritchard

It has taken three years, but Europe is at last putting its collective economy on an industrial war footing. The sums of money are eye-watering. […]

“It is becoming obvious to everybody that defense spending is the way to offset job losses in the car industry,” said Holger Schmieding, the chief economist at Berenberg Bank. […]

If enacted on anything close to this scale, such a high-octane blast of military Keynesianism will entirely change the economic and geopolitical shape of the world. It is the coming boom in Europe that we should all be betting on.

Bavaria’s premier Markus Söder is the weather-vane of our times, leading the call for a full-blown revival of German military power along with a joint nuclear deterrent in concert with France and the UK.

“We need a drone force of 100,000 drones, 800 new tanks, 2,000 Patriot missiles and 1,000 Taurus just for Germany as a protective shield like the ‘Iron Dome’. Only the strong will be taken seriously,” he said. […]

The coalition of the willing will have to rearm mostly outside the EU structure given the vetoes of Hungary and the Russophile bloc.

Joint debt issuance is needed to shield high-debt states from a bond market attack but this can be done through a new agency akin to development banks, and should include the UK, Norway and Canada. …

that is entirely true, by arming up and pushing to extend the war can lead to unintended consequences, World Wars have started over less.

The number of contracts out for, say, the IRIS-T (a good missile to use against Russian Kh-101) is really impressive.

The tiny percentage of the world’s white population is arming itself again.

To kill each other.

“A lot of the liberals in Europe including the UK seem hellbent on starting a war with Russia.”

The UK has pathologically hated Russia since 1830 +/-.

It’s that whole “Great Game” BS of the British Empire.
Doesn’t matter if it’s Monarchist Czarist Russia, the USSR, the Russian Federation Republic. The Brits despise them, even as their whole country falls apart.

The Brits lost their physical empire, but they replaced it with a financial empire where London became the center of banking. They deeply resent that Russia has enormous resources they can’t touch and less than a 20% debt to GDP ratio when the rest of the EU and USA have debt as high as 158%. Over 120 for the USA, at least 100 for the UK.

The Brits still run an empire but it is financial, and far more dangerous.

If they start drafting the Muslims, that may turn out to be mass self deportation.

“Europeons”... The O and A are too far apart on the keyboard to be an accident. THAT is the coolest term I’ve heard in a while. I’m stealing it!

I have very mixed emotions about Trumps NATO posture.

Sure, America is being ripped off to a degree by shouldering EU defense costs but keeping the EU military capability limited in the post Cold War world has been a winning strategy to maintain peace and stability to region prone to petty conflicts and the kind of senseless aggression we are seeing on display in the Ukraine

Biden really screwed the pooch across the board and left the world militarily unstable and without leadership .

We now see massive re armament , modernization and reform in the Russian and EU military establishments

Not sure this is going to be a good thing going forward, especially if the US turns inward toward isolationist policies towards Europe

Europe is untrustworthy, hostile, socialist and authoritarian, un-American, and being taken over by moslems.
The last thing we should do is arm them.

I would hate to explain to the men of the 8th Air Force that we are helping build FLAK systems for Germans. They would be sickened at the idea.

The British have deeply distrusted Russia since the era of romantic nationalism.

When Lord Byron went to Missolonghi to save the Greeks from the Turks, the British intelligentsia committed to promoting morality in international affairs. It did not take them long to figure that the Russians were as terrible a gang of tyrants and despots as the Turks.

True. You are right on target on this one... I’ll give you that.

Mar 13, 2024 — Close to three in 10 Gen Z women, 28.5%, identify as LGBTQ+

According to a recent Pew Research Center survey, around 44% of non-parents between the ages of 18 and 49 (including both millennials and Gen Z) say it is unlikely they will have children,

It’s truly horrifying to any sane person.

” by arming up and pushing to extend the war can lead to unintended consequences, World Wars have started over less.”

Massive arms buildups and mobilizations have actually been the pattern that does start wars.

“untrustworthy, hostile, socialist and authoritarian, un-American, and being taken over by moslems.”

From here on the ground, you just sound cracked.

“The last thing we should do is arm them.”

Well luckily for you they are arming themselves.

” we are helping build FLAK systems for Germans.”

Let me quote Trump speaking on Russia's invasion and annexing of Crimea from back in July of 2015:

“Let me explain first of all — this is Europe’s problem much more than ours, OK?” Trump told CNN during a trip to Scotland.

“And Europe isn’t complaining as much as we are. But this is more of a Europe problem,” Trump continued. “And when Europe comes to us and says, ‘We want your help, we want your help,’ but they’re not really doing that. They’re dealing with Russia, they’re taking in the gas, they’re taking in the oil — they’re not really doing that. And you know, we’re making a big deal out of it.”

“But why isn’t Germany leading this one?” Trump asked. “You know Germany is a very rich, very powerful nation. Why aren’t they dealing on it moreso? Everything the United States — we’re like the policeman of the world.”

Maybe if Europe had started taking defense seriously back in 2014, they wouldn't be in a panic right now. Maybe Putin wouldn't have invaded in 2022. And 2014 wasn't the first sign that Russia was reasserting control over former Soviet states. They invaded Georgia in 2008. But even after Feb 2022, Europe (aside from Poland and the Baltic states) sat back and did almost nothing to strengthen their militaries.

After winning in 2016, Trump again warned them to stop financing Russia by buying their oil and gas, and to start spending more on their own defense. They ridiculed him.

As long as we stay out of it this time.

But taking in war refugees is OK as long as they are indigenous people of Europe.
