In the United States, the “mommy party” is the Democrats.

said something like the Rat party is Santa Claus, the GOP is your Dad telling you,’ No you can’t have whiskey and the car keys!’.

I was at my ex's for Christmas dinner. She and her friend from down the street went on and on about (1) how NPR was straight reporting, no bias or opinions offered and (2) we need to do away with the Electoral College. In the interests of family peace I held my tongue. But they are very typical - older college-educated single women who think the Dem Party is the be-all and end-all and will take care of them.
