There’s a sizable Amish population in the southeastern corner of Minnesota. Schwarzentruber clan. Definitely old school Amish.
We vacation down there in the summer and fall.
Our interactions with them have always been positive. The wife and I have bought some Amish furniture from a guy. His work is stellar and he’s an unassuming man with 13 kids. Another family has a place where they sell a lot of baked goods. All using wood-fired ovens. Very good stuff.
We’ve been introduced to some of their kids. Their kids are more shy than the adults. Over the years, I’ve asked a few questions of the locals about the Amish and most really didn’t have much to say in way of anything bad.
My MIL lives in Mennonite country in upstate country.
They are wonderful people.
The women are fit and beautiful—and their smiles light up a room.
Their stores have outstanding goods at reasonable prices.
They are skilled at all trades—true quality work.
I could rant on—but if I had to start life all over I would have liked to be born in a Mennonite community.
