British police are investigating the alleged gang rape of a girl’s avatar in a virtual reality game, in what is believed to be the first probe of its kind involving the metaverse.
The alleged victim, identified only as a girl under 16, was wearing a virtual reality headset in an immersive game when her avatar, an animated representation of her, was raped by those of several men, the Daily Mail first reported. Although the accuser did not sustain any physical injuries, she may have suffered trauma similar to someone who’d been raped in real life, police sources told the outlet.
“There is an emotional and psychological impact on the victim that is longer-term than any physical injuries,” a senior officer familiar with the case told the outlet. Still, UK authorities fear it might be impossible to prosecute under existing laws, which define sexual assault as physical touching in a sexual manner without consent.

The agonies and anguish of the Gen-z set.
Airheads.
Exactly.
What a bunch of crybabies.
Video game violence started with Pac Man
Or a virtual .50 caliber machine gun.
That’s true.
My thoughts exactly.
Well said.
We can say “rape”
Between banning Red #3 and investigating virtual rape-
maybe I was wrong the other night-
UK might need insane regulations to protect Brits from themselves.
:)
Just exercising my “brain privilege.”
We can? I keep seeing it be banned places.
Before Pac Man there was air hockey. You could actually sustain a physical injury ...
if the puck left the table and hit your wrist causing a bruise that was almost visible. lol
Don’t get me started on the dangers of foosball!
It should be. Utterly ridiculous.
foosball phftt
Jarts - dangerous before lawyers were prevalent
Virtual rape? WTF? Kick the louts off the platform. The end. BFD. I was googling China transgender neophalluses, and got 1 actual result; the remainder were porn. No wonder 90% of children have seen online porn. When I was a kid, I would’ve looked. I can’t imagine getting addicted to it. Sorry for the spiel.
Couldn’t she just arm her Avatar with an imaginary Glock?
Or how about just turning off the computer?
If the girl is under 16 and playing video games, her parents need to be LOCKED UP as no one that age should be playing video games.
Okay, this is why this is happening. The only good thing about this ‘virtual rape’ charge succeeding is conservatives could now sue schools for emotional trauma for virtual rape for exposing minors to porn in schools.
Hilarious. I started gaming on Intelevision with my dad when I was 4. Space Invaders and Tank Battle. I graduated to MS-DOS and Super Ninendo, Nintendo 64 and Windows 95 at 10, PlayStation around 12, PlayStation 2 and Dreamcast when those came out, XBox in high school at 15, then XBox 360 around 19, now all the way up to XBox One as an adult.
I was a nerd, and didn’t make friends easily. Online gaming allowed me to be social, and I still have friends to this day who have visited and whom I met gaming. I just sent a few of them Christmas gifts (baked goods).
