That just might be the key point. Pick older folks with tons of knowledge and experience. Or pick younger folks with plenty of enthusiasm, but no experience.
The OceanGate people evidently went with the latter option. That’s stupid, but it’s not at all unusual. We see it everywhere.
As a side note, I taught for many years in an urban public school district. Our principals were seasoned people, with decades of experience. Then things changed. New principals were appointed. They had little to no experience in urban education.
That’s when things really fell apart.
