The Patriotic Millionaires organization, whose millionaire members claim they want to pay higher taxes to the federal government, were unwilling to sign a pledge to do just that because it would require them as individuals to voluntarily pay higher taxes. Instead, the Patriotic Millionaires want Congress to pass laws making all millionaires pay more in taxes.
“A bunch of millionaires said they want to pay higher taxes and they’re advocating for it, but they won’t sign a pledge saying they’re willing to pay the taxes that they endorse,” said Stepehn Moore, a co-founder of the Committee to Unleash Prosperity.
At an April 18 (Tax Day) press conference outside the U.S. Capitol, millionaire Morris Pearl, a former BlackRock executive and current chairman of the Patriotic Millionaires, said, “We are a group of hundreds of wealthy Americans and business leaders united in our concern about historic levels of inequality and the destabilizing level of wealth and power in America. I’m joined by Dr. Abigail Disney and a few dozen other members of Patriotic Millionaires here today with one request to our lawmakers in there: Tax us! We want to pay higher taxes and everyone else wants to pay higher taxes as well.” […]
However, when asked if they would sign a pledge to voluntarily pay more taxes, neither Morris Pearl, Abigail Disney, nor any of the other Patriotic Millioniares at the press conference would do so. […]
“I’ve got pens; let’s get people to sign these,” said Moore. “You said you wanted to pay more taxes.”
Pearl then interjected, “We said we wanted to change the system.”
Moore replied, “No; you said you wanted to pay more taxes. … Don’t you think it’s your patriotic duty to pay more taxes?”
None of the millionaires present signed the pledge, reported Moore. …

These people are publicly IN FAVOR of the rich paying more.
They ARE the rich. Yet they won’t voluntarily do what they claim to be in favor of. They want laws to FORCE them to do what they say they are in favor of.
WHO NEEDS LAWS TO FORCE THEM TO DO SOMETHING THEY SAY THEY ARE IN FAVOR OF??? They are lying about something. Their logic isn’t lining up.
Thats why we are pointing it out.
Its like a professional tennis player saying “I want to play in more tournaments but I won’t unless the WTA makes rules that force me to play more tournaments.”
Those are lying statements. The logic isn’t there.
Whatever laws are passed to screw the totally rich will soon be extended downward to gouge out more of the hard earned wealth of the middle class. The logic is there; they want the laws passed to get the camel’s nose in the tent.
Many people say things they have no intention of doing. Hardly makes them unique. Don’t not ever buy a used car if you think the salesman means what he says.
We have to force the hypocrites to live by their own rules.
Of which, as we see, they refuse to do.
The rich can hire accountants who shelter the wealth from taxes. The lower classes cant afford that level of assistance or it would take too much of a chunk of what they have to be worth it, so the only people who really get nailed by these laws aren’t the rich.
And the people passing the laws know this because they too often are “the rich” and know their tax folks will shelter their wealth from those laws.
When we people with money...see our pathetic Gobment send millions billions of dollars overseas. I ain’t giving anymore than I have to the Feds.
Well, I certainly wouldn’t allege them to be unique, or even uniquely hypocritical, though strongly so.
Agree - it’s the hard working middle class who gets the shaft with the government using our own money against us. The rich aren’t affected even if they aren’t sheltered and do pay higher taxes because for example 38% tax on a million still leaves $620,000 to pay the country club dues and the business class trip to Paris etc.
Not a millionaire here but if you have these great ideas, don’t volunteer me.
It's hard to tell these days as people are so whacked out that the Babylon Bee is having trouble outdoing reality.
