It’s in the user manual to not deploy near flammable or explosive materials, so they had a duty to know, which makes it reckless disregard or whatever it’s called in FL law.

And that blindside tackle is excessive force unless there is some unknown information that would support some reasonable belief of danger on the part of the officer. Not saying there is or isn’t, but there damn well better be because the officer is screwed without it.

It frigging doesn’t matter what other outlaw bikers routinely do. It only matters what this one did that predicated the officers decision making process that resulted in grievous bodily harm to a citizen.

3 months of stonewalling and no arrest or charges indicates the investigation does not favor the officer.

“But, I do wonder how the doofus spilled gas all over himself while filling up a little bitty gas tank on a cycle. What, he’s never done that before?”

Probably when the police tackled him while he was pumping gas. That would spill gas.

"THIS one will blow up in DeSantis' face, imo. ... look into star chamber-like connections."

Deputy #1: "Did you see that, Deputy! An illegal wheelie."

Deputy #2: "Get the Governor on the phone!"

Deputy #1: "Siri, dial the Governor!"

Governor: "Hello, who is this?"

Deputy #1: "Governor, we have a rogue biker doing wheelies!"

Governor: "You know what to do -- Star Chamber Order #666!"

Deputy #1: "Right! Deputy, you have your Star Chamber Orders!"

Deputy #2: "Stop, wheelie punk! ZZZZT ... (boom)"

"I'm not so sure IQ is part of the equation"

I have had two experiences that taught me how dangerous a cigarette and gas vapors can be.

In the first case, when I was a kid Dad brought home some barrels for us to store grain for our horses. The barrels came from a paint factory and were used, therefore they had crusts of dried paint inside.

The deal was to burn the paint out of the barrels before we put grain in them.

I got tired of the slow process and decided one cup of gas in the barrel and lighting it off would speed things up.

Of course, I knew gas and fire don’t mix well so I got a very long stick actually a long tree limb, and put the end of it in another fire so as to get it either burning on the end or a hot ember would do.

So I got a hot ember on the end. Now I knew it would fire off suddenly so I stood as far to one side of the direct line from the center of the barrel as I could, leaned over and stuck the hot end in the barrel.

I will never forget the sound and the ball of fire that created. Awesome, and really scary. Never ever again...and that was almost 80 years ago.

Much later than that, I was married and my ex wife and I were riding in the back seat of a couple’s station wagon who were friends of ours, when the guy decided to stop for some gas.

That was in the days when an attendant filled the tank, washed the windshield and checked the oil and all you had to do was sit there until he asked for the money.

The cluck was smoking a cigarette. The tank ran over just a bit and there was gas and cigarette fumes mixed. Not good.

I was sitting on that side and all I could see was a wall of fire. I yelled “Get out” and crossed right over my ex and hit the pavement running. When I looked back. the others were just getting out of the station wagon.

My ex had to remind me that I was not a gentleman. My reply was. “The hell I was not...I told you get out.”

That barrel incident put my feet in gear.

Besides, she was a bitch anyway.

Luckily the wagon did not explode. The tank and filler neck were full so all that burned was the fuel on the concrete and I think maybe a little on the fender.

As volatile as gasoline is, it is a wonder we don’t see more excitement .

And a very horrible way to go.

I *HATE* burns of any kind. Have never had beyond a small second degree one, but man, that was more than enough.

That poor, poor guy.

That is one of those ideas that make sense until you put more thought into it.

Remember that the Oklahoma bomber was caught in an ordinary traffic stop. Had he decided to run, that cop would have pursued him and a major crime would have been solved by a hero cop.

I read every day of a cop who made a stop, many times after a chase, and the result is a major crime solved.

I would bet that there are as many crimes solved by a traffic stop as by a Sherlock Holmes type resolution.

I watched the video clip and I cannot see any justification for tackling him like that cop did.

I don’t care if he ran before, you just don’t blindside someone and tackle them like that out of the blue.

That was inexcusable in and of itself. And to deploy a taser at a gas pump?

Unreal.

That cop is fortunate that an eye for an eye justice is not done any more, even if he does deserve it.

I watched the video and when the cop tackled him, it looked like he did it coming from the other side of the bike, and he had to leap over the bike to get him.

It looked like the bike got knocked down on top of the guy and as he was filling it, the cap would certainly have been off the tank. When the bike hit the ground, gas would have gone everywhere, not to mention what may have come out of the nozzle he was holding.

And who knows, maybe he used that little lever to allow it to fill without holding the nozzle the whole time.

Regardless, I don’t see any justification for the cop to take any of the actions he did.

If he survives he'll never have to work another day in his life. But he may live in misery from the burns, etc.

It is not clear the guy did anything but attend a banned motorcycle rally. Then why was tackled? Aren’t they supposed to first try to question him or arrest him. Are police allowed to just tackle people? Never mind using the taser with all the gas spilled.

And I have to wonder how they can be certain he was even there?

Like there are no other motorcyclists on the road and they may have gone after someone who had nothing to do with anything?

Well many police departments limit the IQ scores of applicants.

A little-known fact which can be easily verified by chatting with the average police officer today... It didn't used to be this way.
