A lot of Nazis were rumored to have fled Germany toward the end of WW2 and moved to South America. From Mexico all the way down into Argentina. This may account for certain popular Mexican music that has Tubas in the horn sections.
Actually, the Germans had people in Mexico long before Hitler was born. That might explain the “oom pa pah” sound of many mariachi songs.
Mexican brass bands were a thing since the mid-19th century. Germany started mass production of brass instruments and they were a global hit. Mexico was more enthusiastic than most, and many German musicians moved there to teach and lead bands.
Btw, thats also why 100-150 years ago the waltz was the dominant form of Mexican music.
Linda Ronstadts ancestor was one of these immigrant German musicians (hence Ronstadt, she didnt get that from her US side).
Nothing to do with fleeing Nazis.
There was a fair amount of immigration into Mexico from Germany in the 19th century.
