Australia's 29 million pets could soon be vaccinated against Covid-19 thanks to the efforts of a determined vet.
Dr Sam Kovac is doggedly pursued Australian regulatory approval for the world's only Covid vaccine for pets, developed in Russia, and is optimistic recent developments mean it will soon be on the market here.
His practice, Southern Cross Vets in Sydney, has been inundated with calls about vaccines from owners worried about their pets catching the virus.
However, Covid vaccines for furry friends require sign-off from the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority, and as yet that has not been granted.
However Dr Kovac said he has had a 'positive' conversation with a senior figure in the authority about the issue of having to pay a $105,000 application fee to get the medicine registered.
'They put me in touch with getting an alternative permit. So it's looking like, fast tracking is probably the wrong word, but there is an alternative method that we're looking at to get this approved now,' he told Daily Mail Australia.
'It's pretty exciting. It's looking like it's going to happen.'

Not true, we gave up on the zero covid months ago, with the possible crazy Aussies in Western Australia.
Australia must have a lot of unused jabs. So, animals, look out. It’s your turn. Vets be prepared for business to pick up.
I think you fell hook line and sinker for this story.
apparently you haven’t seen the camps where folks were forced into in Aus?
not to mention it was a facetious comment- obviously not all Aus is locked down- or was- but parts were- hence the protests and clashes with authorities- and yes, in parts of Aus people were confined to their homes- and also taken to camps in areas- if you have info to the contrary- please present it- It was well known this was happenign there in certain areas- -
while maybe you are dog lovers..
this aussie guy certainly dislikes cats

Lol, another greatly exaggerated story. Can you tell me where all these “camps” are, except for the LNG construction workers housing donated to the Northern Territory by Japan that was used for 14 days quarantine for returning Aussies who came from overseas through Darwin. And also to temporarily house a couple of small aboriginal communities ,as recommended by the aboriginals elders? Unlike the USA’s political prisons in the Nation’s capitol where the Justice Department hold political prisoners for a year for minor trespassing offenses.
Now, that last is just nonsense. We have animal shelters all over the place, and many vets and some pet stores function on a smaller scale as such as they can. TV stations in my area run "pet of the week" (usually dogs) stories to find homes for strays. All sorts of rescue organizations exist, many also run ads on TV. Over the past several years we (my immediate family) have taken in 3 stray dogs, and I've lost count of the cats -- the latest of which was near feral and would not come near people, but would eat my daughter's pet cat's food. One day the stray showed up with a bad head wound, and as he got weaker became a little more "accepting". We caught him, took him to a vet, and spent way too much money we could not really afford to patch him up, get him neutered, etc. Now, several months later, he's the biggest over-affectionate...
Point is, enormous effort is exerted in the US to find homes for strays. The trouble is, the problem is even bigger: Owners who think it's cruel to the animal to not let them reproduce, or, some just don't care and abandon them. At some point, the only humane thing left to do is euthanize some strays. Otherwise they starve, fall ill, get themselves shot raiding livestock (and I've had to do that, too), etc.
There is no evidence of zoonotic transmission.
This is about control, not public health.
If you’ll allow them to croak your kids and your pets, you’ll be no problem for the state, will you...
At least they’re getting around to the animal testing phase of vaccine development.
No coinkydink that Hong King is doing this, too, now. Croaking people's pets.
The ChiComs have taken over Australia without firing a shot.
Australia is North Korea but with less Libertad
You’re full of shate- I’ve been placing homeless pets in foster and permanent care for 30 years.
You live in a fascist hellhole. Australia is North Korea without the liberty. Nork
Lol “where are they... but exclude so and so, and so and so camps, cuz they don’t count, nor do aboriginals”
Yes we have our problems here as well, but it doesn’t discount the major issues your country has. We haven’t taken people,by force into covid camps, yet. When it happens, then you can point it out, but so,so, sorry,, your country has engaged in serious rights abuses in certain areas- not, sure, why you are even defending it? Or saying it didn’t happen simply because millions haven’t been affected?
Bs. We saw reports from People taken their from, their homes agaisnmtheir will. You denial is astonishing. As i,I,, if you have proof that it didn’t happen like all,the major news outlets were reporting, fine. Present it
