Do colognes go out of style? (Engaging with Twitter person who was shocked to pass by someone wearing Drakkar Noir).

I’m trying to remember the one that (it seemed like) all of the moms/aunts wore....it had yellow and white stripes, and was a man’s name.

Oh yes, Giorgio! Almost all the moms in families I babysat for when I was a teenager wore that. It was hugely popular.

And I remember Joy, but don’t remember the scent.

My grandma gave me a bottle of Estée Lauder Youth Dew one year. I loved my grandma dearly, but hated Youth Dew. My friends and I “weaponized” it and used it in pranks.

people usually only hate it if they’ve been overwhelmed with it for years, and i mean way too strong, like a gal or guy has bathed themselves in it

or they really love itand thats why they bathe in it

or they smell it the first time and say never again

We can buy Wind Song in our local drugstore - I’m not sure it’s exactly the same as it originally was, but it’s still very close. I always have a bottle. Anything with woody notes entices me, and I’ve liked this one since my teenage years.

And a whiff of Wind Song perfume takes me back to a picnic by a pond one special day.

I love that. The olfactory senses can really be strong memory triggers.

🤣

I can only imagine!

Was that the one in a funky shaped little bottle with a silver stretchy ribbon? Now that you’ve mentioned it....I think I do remember seeing an (unused!) bottle, on mom’s vanity.

Yes, they do go out of style. I guess it might be fairer to say that they get associated with a certain generation or demographic.

I’m a GenXer and I used to love Cool Water, Eternity and Nautica. I stopped using the Eternity because something about it bothered my eyes. My best friend used to love wearing Polo.

My old college girlfriend used Estee Lauder’s Pleasures and I absolutely loved it.

I imagine most millenials and zoomers want nothing to do with what either of us used in the 90’s.

I wear Patrick from Ireland for the past 20 years. I don’t care if it goes out of style as long as I can get it sent to America.

All the lower to mid-priced perfumes today smell like fruit or candy - and pretty much all the same.

Taste in just about everything is degenerating rapidly.

OMG!!!! Had a coworker wear tons of that stuff….

Very strong and distracting at work.

Told him to knock it off.

I like to have my own, individual odor. That’s why I wear tuna fish sandwich. I put a tuna fish sandwich under each arm. Maybe one or two behind the ears. I don’t smell like any other guy. And it’s economical too because the smell lasts four or five days.

Wow…lots of blasts from the past on there.

My mom wore Arpege when I was little. Good to see that it’s still around.

Their deodorant, specifically “swagger” is really the only thing I’ve found that doesn’t react with my body chemistry to make an off-putting smell.
