I say no. It is not worth the high unemployment and millions of destroyed businesses just so we could potentially save the lives of hundreds of thousands 80 years old citizens.
Today is Day 7. We have until Day 15. Then let's go back to business as normal while keeping our elderly and medically vulnerable in quarantine.
If we continue to lock things up to destroy our economy, well, the American people are not going to put up with it.
Let the young ones go back to work. And old ones just shelter at home with supplies brought in. Well survive.
So, is America being played?
South Korea, Taiwan, Japan and Singapore have all basically beaten this virus with none of the draconian measures of Italy or America.
The Diamond Princess cruise ship... basically a floating petri dish of old people...had about a 20% infection rate and seven deaths (all elderly) out of 3,700 passengers.
A death rate not even on par with the flu for the elderly.
NO. And while were at it, we shouldnt allow it to take all of our freedoms away either. If theyve done it now they will do it again for something else. Not so much as a peep from most people with these draconian measures that are eliminating our personal and economic freedoms.
We locked everything down the past 7 days. We have 8 more to go. If I’m 80 years old, I would make sure I have everything I need at home right now and I would get supplies mailed to me. Rest of us need to get infected so we can develop herd immunity. By the time it’s football season, it’ll be safe for everyone to go out again.
I’m chasing the virus, I want to get it and get it over with. I may go hug Rand Paul.
Agreed, time to move on. There will be more death and misery sheltering in place. Collapsing our economy is not the answer.
“Should We Allow COVID-19’s Harsh Measures to Destroy Our Economy?”
the answer is derived from a different question, namely, “Is this another Spanish Flu or Another Swine Flu?” If the former, then yes, if the latter, then no” ...
the problem is that no one knows for sure at this point, so the thinking is: let’s take steps as if it’s another Spanish Flu but hope it’s another Swine Flu, and in either case deal with the economic fallout after we know ...
it’s a tough call and i’m glad i’m not the one making the decision ...
I'm convinced that the fearpers are all retired govt workers with fat pensions and they don't give a damn about the private sector because the govt retirees will always be taken care of, not so much we in the private sector...
Pretty ballsy and confident. Be careful what you chase and what you wish for.
The following is just an *example* of the fatality numbers based upon 10% infection rate for the US and the proportions from an earlier CDC-posted study on Chinese deaths.
320,000,000
*10% infection rate
32,000,000
Age count CDC chart .. .. Dead
20s 37.3M *0.1% ... ... 3,500
30s 43.2M *0.2% ... ... 9,000
40s 42.5M *0.4% ... ..17,000
50s 31.1M *1.3% ... .. 40,000
60s 20.3M *3.6% ... .. 73,000
70s 16.3M *8.0% .. ...130,000
80+ 9.2M *14 % .. ....128,000
... ... ... ... ... .. 404,000
So it’s not really just 80 year olds, even though they have the highest probability of death from this. It’s really down into the 50 year olds solidly. Based on the CDC-posted study, it treats 30-40 year olds with coronavirus like the flu does 70-year olds.
Carry on with the rest of the conversation.
“Today is Day 7. We have until Day 15. Then let’s go back to business as normal while keeping our elderly and medically vulnerable in quarantine.”
Agreed
Well get through this, if we have enough left to get back to.
PDJT is correct, again.
Lets Roll, MAGA, roll!
people had better wake the hell up......this martial law will kill all of us one way or another...
If I am so weak that the common cold, albeit a nasty one with a low grade fever, could/will kill me, then so be it. I want to find out now. F it.
Most of us have already probably been infected. I swear I was back in November. Had all the symptoms and the worst cough I ever had.
Steve Hilton open tonight was RIGHT ON!!!!
What is the exchange rate of businesses to potentially hundreds of thousands of American lives?
What is the current exchange rate? I see approximately $6 trillion committed and 419 deaths. That make the current “exchange rate” of one death per 14 BILLION dollars allocated.
Name one event in the history of this country where we have valued lives in the hundreds of millions. You can’t.
No. Shelter the most vulnerable, and let the rest go back to getting the economy going again so we will have everything we need to care for those affected. Otherwise, we will have a broken and bankrupt system that will not be able to mobilize when we need to.
