GOP challenger Bill Weld: Trump committed treason and 'the penalty for treason ... is death'
CNN Politics ^ | September 23, 2019 | Paul LeBlanc

Former Massachusetts governor and longshot candidate for the GOP nomination for president Bill Weld on Monday accused President Donald Trump of "treason" for pressing Ukraine's President to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and stated bluntly "the penalty for treason under the US code is death."

"Talk about pressuring a foreign country to interfere with and control a US election, it couldn't be clearer," Weld said in an interview on MSNBC's "Morning Joe." "And that's not just undermining democratic institutions, that is treason. It's treason pure and simple."

"The penalty for treason under the US code is death. That's the only penalty," Weld added. "The penalty under the Constitution is removal from office and that might look like a pretty good alternative to the President if he could work out a plea deal."

This turns normal people off.

Therein lies the real problem. As a percentage of the population, normal people are declining and loons are increasing. We are close to the point where normal will become an ineffectual minority.

This is a red flag, and Mr Weld’s firearms should be seized.

In one respect, he’s right, the penalty for treason is death. Deep state Dems need to be listening to Hannity and Levin so they know what headed their way.

Weld needs to be locked up in a nice, safe padded room in an insane asylum.

This is not Communist Russia or Socialist France. Everyone is assumed innocent. You are violating that law and threatening the innocent until proven guilty President. You should be arrested.

Guys like Romney or Weld, who won’t even consider Obama’s, Kerry’s, Mrs. Clinton’s, or Biden’s “treasonous” acts reminds me of the saying “It ain’t no fun when the rabbit has the gun.”

More than the political system, but Ivy League education as well. Treason is the only offense that is actually defined IN the Constitution, Article 3, Section 3...
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.

I’m not seeing how what Weld imagines Trump has offended comports with the Constitutional definition of treason, or how the evidence he believes fulfills the requirement.

I’m pretty much over the Republican Party. This guy, Romney, and McCain pretty much cinch it! Now somebody talk Trump into creating the Golden Party! I’ll be signing up!

I held a sign for Bill Weld at a busy intersection in Melrose, MA when he was running against John Silber for governor of Massachusetts.

I am so ashamed of that now.

Voting for Bill Weld was my biggest political mistake. Yeah, Silber was a Democrat. But he knew how to get things done. Somehow, I don't think he would have put Margaret Marshall in the Supreme court. It would have delayed the homofascists agenda.

It’s been unwelded for quite a while.
I remember watching him stagger and almost fall off the stage at the Hynes Convention Center during his second inauguration party.
Mitt Romney was there clutching his pearls as usual.
His wife at the time Susan left the party early.
He’s gotten worse.
First it was the VeeP slot last cycle and now his friends Jim Beam and Haig and Haig have convinced him that he can pull this off (jerk off motion).

It is completely irrational. There isn’t any Constitutional or legal basis. It is emotion and hatred.

To my eyes, this is actual proof of “Trump Derangement Syndrome”.

Sad.

Mark Levin gave US a lowdown on this guy

Which was what exactly? What happened to him? He was a sort of typical New England Republican, like the lady Senators from Maine, or others of that ilk. Maybe not the strongest fighter for Conservatism, but about the best we could hope for from that region Now look at him!

What happened to make him into a raving lunatic? I know he ran as Gary Johnson's running mate, but Johnson isn't out there saying stuff like this. He's still riding his bike and smoking weed, I'm pretty sure.

Now somebody talk Trump into creating the Golden Party! I’ll be signing up!

I read on Drudge yesterday that 40% of GOP incumbents in the House and Senate have left office since Trump was elected!

So, in effect, Trump is creating the Golden Party one replacement at a time.

The incoming Republicans tend to be much more on-board with the MAGA agenda.

It's another great accomplishment of Trump that is seldom mentioned.

Romney is a unique problem. Hopefully someone primaries him in 2024 when his term runs out.

Utah is a special case, due to the domination of the state by the Mormon Church. It's amazing to look at their 2016 POTUS election result where Egg McMuffin (Evan McMullin) got an astounding 25% of the vote.

Evan McMullin.

The Mormon Church really doesn't like Trump, and instructed their followers to vote for the weird 3rd Party guy. No other way he gets over 1%.

538 (Nate Silver's site): How Evan McMillian could win Utah and the Presidency"

The article is pretty fun. It includes a deadlock in the Electoral College as part of the scenario. A bit far fetched, but fun for political junkies and fans of American election trivia. Anyway, here's what they said about Egg McMuffin:

First, McMullin is a Mormon, and while Utah is a deep red state, the heavily Mormon population has not embraced Trumpism. In the Utah Republican Caucuses in March, Trump finished in 3rd place with just 14 percent of the vote.

Meanwhile, in those same caucuses, the candidate whom Mitt Romney announced he would vote for — Ted Cruz — received 69 percent of the vote. It’s hard to overstate Romney’s popularity and influence in Utah, and his endorsement could easily put McMullin over the top. (Oh, and McMullin is reportedly using a Romney email list already.)

Why do Mormons love Romney so much? I mean I get he's a Mormon, but even that's a big odd. I was raised Catholic, I don't care if my Senator or President is Catholic, Mormon, Baptist or Presbyterian. (I draw the line at Muslims, though.)

I'm a lot more concerned about their views on the issues of importance to me. But then the Mormon chruch is an effective totalitarian organization

totalitarian adjective: of or relating to centralized control by an autocratic leader or hierarchy .
Maybe the experience of Trump actually being the most Conservative president in recent US history will encourage some Utah Mormons to stop following the suggestions of Romney and the Church hierarchy and vote their conscience.

It's interesting to look back on the 2012 election. I voted for Romney, as I am sure many Freepers did. Now I feel like we dodged a bullet, and in retrospect maybe "Teh One", aka Zero, was the better choice in the long run. Without Obama's disaster of eight years of anti-American policies Trump would note have resonated so deeply with Americans.
