Motorola’s DynaTAC (Dynamic Adaptive Total Area Coverage) 8000X was the world’s first commercially released mobile phone. Measuring 13 inch x 1.75 inch x 3.5 inch, this cell phone was released in 1983 with a price tag of $3,995.

Maybe she could afford it with her babysitting money or something.

Cells phones, video cameras were becoming available in 1988 (but only becoming common much, much later, well after 1988!), but were “just-on-the-market” in 1982-83 as point out.

1982 was “2-way radio” era, CB radio for “common folks”

In 1982, it was pagers (for a few such as on-call doctors - and NEVER high-schoolers!) and 8 mm film cameras. And 8 mm cameras were “not cool” for high school students. “Those” films were taken only by parents and grandparents.
