“So dad - what is the one moment of human exploration?”
“Huh?”
“Look at this - so what one moment is it?”
“Oh - that's wrong, it should read “this moment”.”
“No - otherwise they would have written that. I think I'm supposed to figure out what the greatest moment of human exploration is. I was going to write about Columbus, but you said the Vikings discovered America first, but maybe I'll write about penicillin - that was a huge discovery. Or maybe exploring the ocean. They say that 80% of the ocean still isn't explored - so the one moment could still be ahead of us in the ocean!”
BTW - I think it was the astronauts on the gray rocky desolate moon with photos of the blue earth and white clouds showed just how special the Earth is. And it was used be the greenies and the peace freaks. Although I am one conservative that is glad for some of the early work done by the environmentalists to get some controls in place and clean up things. Everything in moderation. (So calling CO2 a “pollutant” would not be in the “moderation” list. But neither is using our rivers as one’s personal chemical disposal unit.)
I am fortunate that I get to choose my own texts and supplementary materials and make up my own lessons.
