The FBI has arrested a man accused of sending Dallas reporter Kurt Eichenwald a tweet that triggered an epileptic seizure.
The agency announced that John Rayne Rivello, 29, of Salisbury, Md., was arrested Friday morning in Maryland on a cyberstalking charge.
Eichenwald tweeted that the man who "assaulted" him also is expected to be indicted by the Dallas district attorney on different charges in the next few days.
Eichenwald's attorney, Steven Liberman, told Newsweek that "What Mr. Rivello did with his Twitter message was no different from someone sending a bomb in the mail or sending an envelope filled with anthrax spores."

What if someone found your posts to be so moronic that it gave him a three-day migraine?
Should you be arrested? Or at least fined for making him miss work?
I don't let the defective little girl play with the internet where she can get herself killed accidentally.
What kind of complete moron lets someone flirt with potential death from flashing lights on the internet?
If looking at images will send Eichenwald into a seizure, than 95% of the fault is that jackass looking at a media service that could potentially send him into a seizure.
Thank you. Finally a common sense statement.
He's a grown man who writes for a liberal magazine called "Vanity Fair". That's all I need to know. I won't subsidize his agenda thru the purchase of his books.
This is more Federal/FBI over-reach. We had an armed robber here the other day that was tried/convicted/sentenced in FEDERAL court simply because the fast food restaurant he chose does business in multiple states.
So you’re basically saying that people with peanut allergy shouldn’t go into grocery stores because they sell peanuts and and peanut butter in there.
People with shellfish allergy shouldn’t go into restaurants because they sell shellfish in there.
And if anyone with a shellfish allergy walked into a restaurant, and someone in the restaurant knew that person had a shellfish allergy and decided to toss a a shellfish onto that person plate after saying I know you are allergic to shellfish, and I hope you die, it’s basically 95% the fault of the allergic jackass for going into a place that contains shellfish.
Got it DiogenesLamp, that’s great.
Got to tell you that I have seen some of the stupidest responses I have ever seen on this thread, and yours is certainly among them.
You don’t seem to be bright enough to actually follow what happened.
Perhaps you should read the article before spewing unrelated idiocy like you just did.
I have seen some of the stupidest responses I have ever seen in this thread, and yours is among them.
And what then if a person walks up to the peanut table and says I know you have a peanut allergy, you deserve to have an allergic reaction, and I hope you die, then tosses a peanut butter sandwich onto the table?
What then, mom?
And what if it was your son at the table who suffered a reaction and died?
What then, mom?
Hmm?
For the assertion to be made that the tweet in question made the left-wing lunatic have a seizure , would it not be fair to say he that he had to cast his eyes upon the tweet in question ? I’m not a doctor but common sense would say that he had to stare at it long enough to cause a seizure ...I still think that the left-winger is lying about having a seizure but you go ahead and continue to vigorously defend him , as it’s you who looks foolish ...
Do you have the same empathy towards Trump supporters that are being assaulted and beaten all around the country ? The left plays for keeps and here you are defending one of them , nice work ...
No, I don’t think so.
The person who committed the crime knew what he was doing the entire time, and stated so, and wrote about his intent towards his victim.
How the victim behaved in this scenario isn’t relevant, because whether or not a victim of a crime is stupid or not does not give anyone the right to commit a malicious crime against him.
This is what the man said-
“According to a criminal complaint, messages sent from Rivello’s Twitter account mentioned Eichenwald, saying “I know he has epilepsy,” “I hope this sends him into a seizure” and “let’s see if he dies.”
And that makes this very clearly a crime.
But go ahead and tell me how it’s not. because the victim is a lib or a dummy, I’d be fascinated to read your reasoning. Really.
Yes. I'm Trump supporter too.
"For the assertion to be made that the tweet in question made the left-wing lunatic have a seizure , would it not be fair to say he that he had to cast his eyes upon the tweet in question ? Im not a doctor but common sense would say that he had to stare at it long enough to cause a seizure ...I still think that the left-winger is lying about having a seizure but you go ahead and continue to vigorously defend him , as its you who looks foolish ..."
Because the victim in this case is a left wing lunatic does not give anyone the right to commit a crime against them. You might want to commit a crime against them, but if you do and you get caught, guess what's going to happen.
And yes, it's fair to say that he had to cast his eyes upon the tweet, but that isn't what you said.
You said-
"Nonsense ... nobody forced the Lib to look at it , much less stare at it, which would have been required for it to cause a seizure ... you have no idea what youre talking about"
Which is really kind of amusing, because it is quite clear to me that you are the one who has no idea what you're talking about.
I asked you to prove what you stated and to state your credentials that allow you to state that staring at something would have been a requirement in order to cause a seizure, and you can't, so you are obviously here just talking crap and saying that it's okay to commit a crime against someone you don't like.
"The left plays for keeps and here you are defending one of them , nice work ..."
The person who tried to kill another person by sending a tweet that initiated a seizure was the person playing for keeps.
Do you have any other stupidity you would like me to bat down in your face? If not, I suggest you quit while you are very far behind.
1st I wasn’t responding to you and 2nd in your zest to be combative I was pointing out that IMO sending peanuts or strobes with the intent to inflict bodily harm or death is wrong
Good. Coming from you that informs me I am exactly right. Grow up snowflake. The world is full of dangers, and those susceptible to dangers that are quite harmless to everyone else, need to foot the responsibility for dealing with them.
Oh, yes, I see that, I apologize to you.
I wasn’t reading my account page, but rather was just reading down the thread page, and I thought your post was to me, but now I see that it was not.
You are right that I am being combative though. Some of the posts in this thread are so incredibly stupid, and they’ve pissed me off pretty good.
So again, this was my mistake, I appreciate your pointing it out to me, I’m sincerely sorry, and I withdraw my post to you.
Lets say that he indeed had a tweet inspired seizure , tell us how long you think he stared at the tweet to cause the seizure ? You seem to have a weird obsession with this topic, so I will keep an open mind as to your answer of how long you think he stared at the offending tweet ...
I’m not a snowflake, and you are exactly wrong.
Yes, the world is full of dangers.
And among those dangers are human beings with malicious intent who engage in clever methods of trying to kill you because they don’t like you.
And no, the left wing lunatic does not need to foot the responsibility for someone trying to kill him via exploiting a known medical condition.
The victim of a crime is not responsible for someone consciously choosing to commit a crime against him, in this case trying to kill him, simply because the victim is stupid, says stupid things on TV, and has a medical condition that the criminal knows about.
Nothing anyone on this thread has said has come anywhere even close in convincing me that a serious crime was not committed here.
Nothing.
All of the arguments that this was not a crime are pure fail.
When your life can be ended by a twitter message, it's time to say "good bye cruel world!"
I don’t have any idea how long he cast his eyes upon it.
I don’t know if he stared at it for a year, or if he glimpsed at it for a split second.
I don’t know if he was alone when this occurred, or if someone witnessed what happened. That is for a jury to determine.
What I do know is that his behavior has no relevant bearing on whether or not someone tried with stated malicious intent to cause an epileptic to have a seizure by sending the epileptic a seizure inducing tweet. And this person stated desired result was that the epileptic die from the sent tweet.
That is a crime. All. Day. Long.
He has also been charge with cyberstalking by the FBI, which he clearly did.
So, my FRiend, the homes is in deep doo doo, and he has no one to blame but himself.
His life can be ended by a seizure.
Not a twitter message.
And no, it’s not time to say goodbye cruel world. He has a right to live just as we all do.
Are you supposed to one who protects the frail and weak?
You don’t want to protect this guy because he’s a lib douche? Open season on him, is it?
