The flags of the Confederate States of America were very important and a matter of great pride to those citizens living in the Confederacy. They are also a matter of great pride for their descendants as part of their heritage and history.

In Vietnam it flew from my ACAV’s antenna.
>If reparations are to be paid...levy them against that 6%, and leave the rest of us alone.<
They’re all dead. No one but the sex slavers of today, cotton (pun intended) to owning another human being.
Good people did what they thought was right - on both sides.
States’ rights was the issue - plus the bleeding of the South by the northern states. Surely you don’t believe what you read in your school books about the War between the States.
Isn’t slavery what the left mostly uses to argue against States Rights and to advocate for a bigger Federal government?
It went better than I thought. Apparently the pro-Confederate Freepers are driving to Gettysburg, where they think a great battle is raging.
Jmacusa, you and I have exchanged very friendly posts concerning the loss of your cat, so I want to be nice. But that is patently ridiculous.
"Y'all" is a contraction of two words. It's no more slovenly than any other contraction, and is perfectly acceptable. What sets it apart is the fact that it's purely regional. If one has an objection to it, and not to the use of all other contractions, then it's fair to say the person's problem is with the region itself, which would not reflect well upon that individual.
Now, I could see having a problem with the word "ain't", which is ungrammatical (though I wouldn't go so far as to call it slovenly). I've seen you use "ain't" in your posts, which makes your objection to "y'all" even more mystifying.
For the record, I occasionally use "ain't" myself when in a private setting with family or friends.
Here's something interesting:
The Sesquicentennial week kicks off on April 8. They're expecting crowds from all over the world, several times the population of Appomattox County and Campbell County. They're talking traffic jams all the way up the highway, from Appomattox eastward to Lynchburg.
Lynchburg will be a madhouse, and the town of Appomattox, well...you know how small it is. I can't imagine it.
I may just make sure I have plenty of supplies and stay in that week, LOL.
Here's the link: Appomattox County Civil War 150th
I dint lern nuthin in skewl. I maid up the thangs I node. An wut pa sed.
He knew enough to get elected president. Hows your campaign going General?
Get a dictionary while your at Smokey.
Not always. So tell us how the North was bleeding the South?
Why do the “yankees” move in? Have they shit on their own place?
LOL.
The amusing thing is if you’re paying attention to the news you’re seeing a certain segment of malcontents going around looking for the slightest thing to be offended about. If they can’t find it they make something up out of nothing.
Someone should show a certain strawman her way back to Oz.
In a way, both.
Slaves were held in the North as well. Though it didn’t prove as economically viable as in the South. Those families well off enough to hold slaves, including even some black slave owners, who were even so increasingly under the weight of moral argument in general to free them at some point. And even when freed there were those who held to their former owners, if the economic means were still available to them.
But as you’re disposed to your jingoism, I wouldn’t expect you to understand that there were other causes to secession as well. But that you might reread the preamble to the Declaration of Independence, and understand that when push came to shove, I would have headed South despite the likes of you Yankees.
Happy Easter.
It didn’t take a war to end slavery in the North and slavery was enshrined in The Confederate Constitution. So you would have headed South despite the likes of Yankees the like of you. You trying trying to be cute? Well right back at you Reb and take your Easter greetings and stick it.
Correction: you mean Yankees the likes of me. Is that what your saying?
Fine with me. Though I’m sure given the nature of FR that we’ll eventually find something to agree on, if we haven’t already.
I’m just beyond fed up with Lost Causers and their pathetic carrying of the torch for the Confederacy and all Johnny Reb wanna be’s who can’t see the forest for the damn trees that despite it’s problems this is the greatest nation on Earth and more over I’m NOT A F**King Yankee! I”M AN AMERICAN! WHAT ARE YOU?
