Your definition of 'civilized' seems to be pretty limited.

What are the attributes of civilization? Agriculture? Writing? Money? Cities? You know where the word 'cities' and 'civilization' have their root? Right?

Loved my dog, and he was one of the team, and when he passed, he got a deep hole and a Christian burial. Love my catz, too.

But animals are animals.

Sorry, but I don't think you are well versed in history. Dogs were the animal that helped humans to flourish and human and dogs evolved together. Humans and dogs learned to follow the gaze of each species eyes. Dogs helped humans beat neanderthals. Cave painters did not put dogs in their cave are with game animals, suggesting they saw them as fellow travelers, not game. To humans, dogs are not just animals.
