We have family members buried at this cemetery and I know that Veterans and their spouses are entitled to a free burial in National Cemeteries. The first to die is buried deep enough so that the when the spouse passes, he or she can be buried on top of their coffin. For that reason, it is puzzling to me why Madelyn Dunham, Obama’s grandmother, was cremated and her ashes scattered in the Pacific Ocean. Why wasn’t she laid to rest with her husband, like most Veterans’ wives?
