— did we ever connect the dots between Stanley Ann and Ms. Angelou and their common ties to the island? Was there a close relationship, close enough for a namesake, and where did it begin? Were they in Hawaii concurrently 1965? Might a child’s travels be involved?

Who was working at The Arab Voice in Cairo as a journalist in 1960, a position, according to herself, that she obtained through David Du Bois, the son of Shirley Graham Du Bois, who also assisted her to find accommodation in Cairo. David Du Bois discusses meeting with Malcolm several times, but he's careful not to say when that might have been...Malcolm was apparently travelling in Egypt and Africa around July 1959, then again in September 1959 until January or February 1960.

Maya Angelou's timelines conflict according to whatever bio you read that she's mostly written herself...one of which tells us that she was planning to work for Malcolm in his new organisation named The Organisation of African American Unity...and she was in the US when she heard he had been killed. The trip to stay with her brother in Hawaii was to assist her to recover from the shock of the death of the man whom she loved like a brother...she stayed in Hawaii for six months and sang in nightclubs.

Tantalizing to speculate, but if you're wondering as I have, where that boy might have been living (as there's nothing to show he was living with the Dunhams at that time) it's quite possible he was living with her dear brother Bailey - who disappeared off the face of the earth 'round about that time. (Later, it was discovered he spent two terms confined in the Big House, once in Sing Sing.) She never wrote about him ever again after that...sad.
