Indonesians inherited their hatred of negroes from the arabs who brought islam to Java. They still look down on negroid peoples from Africa because they have been conditioned to see them as slaves. The boy may have been teased because of his negroid appearance and his obvious crinkly-negroid hair.

So, long story short, telling people the boy was from Iryan Jaya, the Indonesian name for West Papua would have been more to his advantage than to be seen as a negro.
Irian Jaya? Never heard of it. Guessing from the context that it's one of the very numerous Indonesian islands. Does Obama have physical characteristics consistent with the native populations there?
