soldiers. Who on this battlefield displayed
heroism unsurpassed sacrificing all in sup-
port of their cause. Their valorous deeds
will be enshrined in the hearts of men long
after these transient memorials have crum-
bled into dust.
Thirty two North Carolina regiments were in
action at Gettysburg July 1,2,3, 1863. One Con-
federate soldier in every four who fell here
was a North Carolinian.
Origin of “The Tar Heels”
North Carolina soldiers taunted their Virginian compatriots that General Robert E. Lee was going to put tar on their heels to make them stick better; to which Lee responded,
“God bless the Tar Heel boys!”

Nope. Here's a neat site showing CSA deaths by state. NC and VA are roughly tied, with AL not far behind.
Since VA had a population of 1.2M or so, and NC about 1M, NC lost a slightly higher percentage of its men. But nowhere near double.

It's surprising how unevenly the deaths were distributed.

Do them mention the men murdered by the pretended Confederacy as ‘deserters’ for the pretended crime of loyalty to the US Government?
