I'd stop living in Massachusetts the moment that the Civilized States of America was formed.
Just as the East Coast, West Coast, and Great Lakes wouldn't be one country, neither would the South and West stick together.
Once people decide they won't take orders from Washington and send their money there, it's hard to believe they'd still take orders from some capital half a continent or more away and send their money hundreds or thousands of miles away.
And yes, if you move to some new splinter state from the other part of the country, you might well be regarded with suspicion, expected to lay low, keep quiet, and not get in people's way.
Your bumper stickers won't make people trust you any more once they find out where you're from.
But it's not going to happen any time soon.
